Anyone who has watched or read One Piece will know very well that Eiichiro Oda can get pretty experimental with his character designs. This means that, while there is a well-established set of races that make up the world of One Piece, including humans, there are still some characters who look like they hail from a different tribe or even a different planet entirely, due to their rather bizarre appearance.

While the story might try to claim that these characters are human, it's easy to start getting doubts when someone is bigger than a skyscraper or possesses barely any human-like physical features to speak of. Then again, this simply adds to the mystery and intrigue of these characters in general, resulting in much fan speculation about their true lineage. With that being said, these are some of the biggest examples of humans in One Piece who, to put it simply, just don't look all that human.
8 Magellan
Magellan, The 'Poisonous Human', Doesn't Appear To Be A Human At All

Magellan, the head guard of the Impel Down prison, is a truly terrifying sight to behold up close. For one, this frightening antagonist is at least double the size of the average human, being able to easily tower over the likes of Luffy and Buggy, and he also uses this size advantage in combat to throw out hard-hitting attacks on any who dares to try and escape.
There are also a few other aspects of Magellan's design, outside of just his size, which seem rather unusual for a human. For example, his dagger-like teeth seem more reminiscent of a Fishman than a human, and of course, the giant bat wings, though these are most likely ornaments. It makes sense why Oda wanted to make Magellan as intimidating as possible, but his ferocious design has inspired more than a few online discussions concerning whether the poisonous human is even a human at all.
7 Merry
If A Lamb Were Able To Transform Into A Human, It Would Look A Lot Like Merry

Long-time fans might remember Merry as the spunky young man who helps the Straw Hats out with creating their ship back in the Syrup Village arc. While Merry certainly dresses like a human with his snazzy suits and business outfits, by far the most distinguishable aspect of his appearance is the big bush of white curly hair and horns that resemble those of a lamb.

It's clear that Oda has a lot of fun experimenting with different design schemes for his side characters, but this is definitely one of the weirdest ones yet in terms of the human characters. It would make a lot more sense if Merry possessed a Devil Fruit which allowed him to transform into a lamb, but considering he doesn't seem to have any fruit to speak of, the fact that he was presumably born this way is definitely a little strange.
6 Avalo Pizarro
The Dangerous Member Of The Blackbeard Crew Was Given A Pretty Strange Design

At a glance, Pizarro can look like a fairly ordinary human, but it's when taking a closer inspection at his design that starts to put this into question. The biggest example of this is the two spiked horns that poke out from each side of his head, which seem more fitting of an ogre or beast than a human. He also possesses an absurdly long mustache which is wider than his entire body, and though this wouldn't be impossible to pull off for the average human, it's definitely still a little bizarre.
When Blackbeard decided to break out multiple key prisoners from Impel Down in order to create his own makeshift crew, he didn't have a care in the world about who they were or where they came from. So long as they possessed enough power to help him in his journey, he gladly brought them on board, and that includes Pizarro, who remains a mysterious character in the story.
5 Hannyabal
Hannyabal Is Another Member Of Impel Down Who Possesses Some Rather Unusual Features

Just like with Magellan, Hannyabal is another guard of Impel Down who looks a lot different from the majority of the humans seen in the series thus far. Hannyabal's chin, for example, is designed as a single vertical block that stretches down from his face, while his eyebrows are pointy spikes that could end up harming someone if they step too close to him.
The rest of his appearance seems fairly normal for the most part, but it does feel as though Oda decided to make Hannyabal's face his own personal canvas, seeing just how far he could stretch the proportions without it getting ridiculous. As a result, while it's claimed that Hannyabal is a human, this definitely isn't so obvious just by looking at him.
4 Black Maria
Black Maria Is More Of A Giant Than A Human

While each member of Kaido's Tobiroppo has something about them that helps to make them stand out, the one member who sticks out from the crowd the most is Black Maria, and it's all because of her size. While she may be a human, Black Maria can easily be mistaken for a giant, especially since she's officially bigger than even Kaido, who is already gigantic. Considering Black Maria's Devil Fruit allows her to turn into a carnivorous spider, it's not like Sanjuan Wolf's case, where it's the fruit that enhances his size.

Instead, Maria just seems to be naturally this big, which is surprising if she is supposed to be a human, though it definitely helps her out during combat, where she's able to flatten her enemies with no more than a few punches.
3 Caesar Clown
There's Something Very Unusual And Sinister About The MADS Scientist's Appearance

Caesar Clown first entered the series in the Punk Hazard story arc, where he acts as an annoying thorn in the side of Luffy and the Straw Hats. Caesar is a former member of the MADS science group who has been conducting some truly vile experiments ever since he went rogue, though in all honesty, it's Caesar himself who looks like some sort of experiment gone horribly wrong with regard to his appearance.
His piercing yellow eyes, pale white skin, and strange dark green horns all contribute to giving him a rather odd and sinister design. Of course, this was intentional since it feeds into Caesar's evil and corrupt personality, but at the same time, it begs the question of whether Caesar truly is fully human, or if there's still more to learn about this mischievous villain.
2 Ulti
Ulti's Horns Call Into Question Whether She Is Truly A Human

Ulti is often considered to be the most brash, loud, and outgoing member of the Tobiroppo, but that's not the only reason why she has garnered so much attention from fans. Like several other characters who have been included on this list, Ulti has two giant horns that reach above her head, and while some theorized these may just be decorations, Oda has since drawn both Ulti and Page One when they were still young, which shows that they still had the horns even back then.
The fact that Ulti also decides to hide her mouth at all times indicates she may not just be a human, but potentially also part of another race entirely. Still, she's definitely loud and obnoxious enough to be classed as a human regardless, and until Oda says otherwise, that's what she is classed as within the story.
1 Gecko Moria
Moria Sticks Out Like A Sore Thumb Due To His Ghoulish Appearance

While most of the Thriller Bark pirates have very spooky and gothic design schemes, Moria takes this to a whole new level. Despite technically being classed as a human, Moria looks a lot more like some sort of mutant, given his overwhelming size, along with his head that has only gotten longer with age; just one of the many creepy features that make him so terrifying.
Admittedly, Moria does look a little more human in the flashback scenes where he can be seen duking it out against Kaido, but even then, his razor-sharp teeth and small horns indicate that there's something a little off about him. While Oda is yet to clarify what exactly Moria even is, it seems like he will simply be referred to as a human for the remainder of the series, unless there are any sudden big reveals in the future.
