Gol D. Roger was a legendary figure in the One Piece world. After all, not only did this man conquer the Grand Line and find the One Piece, but he also ushered in the new era of piracy during his execution.
All of this earned Roger the greatest title one can hold in One Piece, that of the Pirate King. So far, in One Piece, Roger is the only known man to ever hold this title. It’s unclear if anyone before him ever held this title, and fans know that no one has yet to reach Laugh Tale and find the One Piece after him, even though, now, at this point in the story, everyone is edging closer.
Right now in the manga, fans are learning more about Roger during the Elbaf flashback. And while Roger definitely deserved his title, he didn’t deserve it as much as this one other character in One Piece.

Roger Is The Pirate King, But Joy Boy Is An Even Better Candidate For This Title

To the people currently living in the One Piece world, Roger may be the most legendary pirate to ever sail the seas, but there is one character even more legendary who is forgotten in history. That man is none other than Joy Boy, the second Nika.
Joy Boy is still a character shrouded in mystery, as he lived during the Void Century and much has been erased about him. However, one thing fans have come to discover about him is that he was the very first pirate ever. Joy Boy likely conquered the Grand Line centuries before Roger was even born. He left behind the One Piece and was at Laugh Tale. Everything connects to him.
With all of these achievements, Joy Boy is truly the most deserving person to be called the Pirate King.
One Piece Chapter 1155 will be out this week. As usual, One Piece is going to drop on Sunday. In Japan, One Piece drops at 12AM JST on Monday.
