Inherited Will is one of the central concepts in the entire One Piece story. Essentially, this states that the dreams and ambitions of every single person can live on even centuries after their death, regardless of whether the initial person who thought of them succeeded in seeing them through or not. As such, it is the driving force behind some of the most important character arcs in the story, with Luffy's journey to becoming the Pirate King being chief among them.

In the current setting, the Inherited Will of some of history's most important characters lives on in some of the biggest players in One Piece today. This brings things into perspective, since many fans believe that important events from the past can cause a sort of repeat in the modern era due to Inherited Will, chief among them being the God Valley Incident. So, let's see how this event's most significant battle may repeat in the future.

What Exactly Was The Infamous God Valley Incident?

The Most Important Event In History

The God Valley Incident is still spoken about in hushed tones around the world since this event and the island where it took place have been expunged from the annals of history by the World Government. The basic setup is that, 38 years before the story began, the Celestial Dragons held their triennial Native Hunting Competition on the island of God Valley. Here, they had stolen the secret treasure of Hachinosu to be given away as one of the prizes to the winners of the contest.

Because of this, the Rocks Pirates invaded the island during the event to reclaim their mysterious treasure, which then prompted the Roger Pirates to arrive as well due to Roger's rivalry with the legendary Rocks D. Xebec. Upon hearing of Roger's departure for the island, Garp and a contingent of his Marines headed there as well, where many battles took place between some of the strongest and most important characters in history, though the exact details are still currently a mystery.

How Inherited Will Shaped The Series' Most Important Battle

And How Luffy, Blackbeard, And Koby Are Involved

  • Luffy and Koby are destined to team-up against Blackbeard.

As stated earlier, Inherited Will is arguably the single most important concept in the entire One Piece story since it has shaped the ambitions of not only Luffy, but many other incredibly important characters. In Luffy's case, however, his wish to become the Pirate King has been his lifelong goal due to his desire for freedom, though this is something that was dreamed of first by Joyboy and then by Gol D. Roger.

As such, Inherited Will can also be seen in Blackbeard, who many fans believe will be the ultimate villain of the series even after Imu. Although Blackbeard wants virtually the exact same thing as Luffy, Oda has very deliberately etched out his path to do so, showing that he is the mirror opposite of the main character and has the same goal but with a wholly different way of achieving it. Blackbeard has inherited the will of the mysterious Rocks D. Xebec, since these two are the only characters who have ever wanted to become the 'King of the World'.

Fate has chosen me to conquer this world!

Koby, on the other hand, had always dreamed of becoming a Marine and excelling within the ranks of the Navy. Because of his aspirations, he was taken under the wing of the legendary hero, Monkey D. Garp, who wanted a proper disciple to carry on his legacy, considering his son and grandson both went in the exact opposite direction. This shows that Koby has inherited Garp's will.

Keeping Luffy, Blackbeard, and Koby in mind, it's quite apparent that Oda is planning on showing the most important battle of God Valley in the modern day. Of course, this refers to the fight which led to the demise of Rocks D. Xebec, since he met his end due to the unlikely team-up of Roger and Garp. While these two were sworn enemies as the greatest of their respective factions, they knew that they had to put aside their differences to put down a far greater threat.

In the present day, the parallels of each of these legendary figures have taken up their roles as the world's leading figures. This is why many fans believe that the end of the series will have a repeat of God Valley's greatest battle, with Luffy and Koby putting aside their animosity towards one another to take down Blackbeard, just as their respective predecessors, Roger and Garp respectively, did with Rocks on God Valley. Not only does this set up the perfect endgame fight for all of them, but it also ties everything up beautifully.

The connections and parallels between the concerned parties are too perfect to not be followed up in the Final Saga. One incredible fan theory states that, at the very end, Blackbeard may just steal Imu's overpowered Devil Fruit, making him the greatest threat to the entire world, much like Rocks was in his day. If this is the case, then Luffy won't be able to beat him on his own, so Koby's help will pretty much be required.
