At the current moment in the One Piece story, the God Valley Incident is still remembered as perhaps the most significant event in the history of the world. Though the exact details of what happened here are still foggy, what is known is that the biggest players in the world 38 years before the start of the official story were all involved in a massive battle involving multiple factions and the strongest characters at the time.
Ever since its first mention during the Wano arc, fans were convinced that this was one of the most important events in One Piece's history. However, although many believe that God Valley was officially introduced at this time, its true debut happened many hundreds of chapters before in the Thriller Bark arc, so let's take a look at this theory and go over why it may just be true.
One Piece Episode 1130 Reveals The Most Important Event In History
Episode 1130 of the One Piece anime has finally shown the God Valley Incident, which many consider the most important event in history!
What Exactly Was God Valley And What Happened There?
The Most Interesting Event Ever
- The God Valley Incident involved the most important figures from 38 years ago.
- The event concluded with the erasure of the island.
The exact details of what transpired during the God Valley Incident are currently a mystery, although the Elbaf arc promises to reveal everything. The main detail to note regarding it is that the island of God Valley served as the location for the Native Hunting Competition that the Celestial Dragons held triennially. However, this time, it was different because they had stolen the mysterious treasure of Hachinosu to be given as one of the awards for the winner of this contest.
Because of this, the legendary Rocks Pirates arrived at the island to reclaim their treasure, which in turn prompted the Roger Pirates to do the same, which in turn also caused the Marines led by Garp to make their way to God Valley as well. The exact details of what transpired here remain a mystery, only that the incident concluded with the disbanding of the Rocks Pirates, the presumed death of Rocks himself, and the total erasure of God Valley from the map.

One Piece, Chapter 443, "Thriller Bark" |
The God Valley Incident is integral to the story arcs of some of One Piece's most important figures, such as Roger, Garp, Kuma, and Whitebeard, among many others. This island was where they all converged during their younger days, the result of which was an all-out brawl between the greatest forces of the day, ending with the total erasure of the island from all the maps and details regarding it expunged from all records.
However, this fan theory states that although the island was destroyed, it was fragmented rather than totally erased from the map. To start, God Valley was explained to be an island in the West Blue where the Native Hunting Competition took place. While this seems to be a random and negligible detail, everything changes when taken within the context of Thriller Bark, which was the island/ship of Gecko Moria and his pirate crew that also hailed from the West Blue.
Thriller Bark itself is an incredibly unusual ship, in that it's the largest in the setting due to it being an island that has been repurposed to become a pirate ship with massive chains and mechanisms. The theory states that although it has always been portrayed as random, the island that serves as the main quarters of Thriller Bark is actually one of the fragments of God Valley itself, stating that after the legendary incident, this chunk was all that remained of it.
At some point in time, Gecko Moria found this island and repurposed it to make it the largest sailing vessel in all of One Piece. While the connection seems purely to be founded on the fact that both are from West Blue, some of the characters located on Thriller Bark seem to hint at it as well. One of the most notable zombies that the Straw Hats came across was a rather funny drunkard wearing an overcoat which seemed to denote his importance.
Don't be such a slowpoke, Captain John! Your infamous, lifetime reputation all over the world is crying!
This man was revealed to be none other than Captain John, a high-ranking and particularly notable member of the Rocks Pirates who was confirmed to be present during the God Valley Incident. On top of this, the Rocks Pirates were also said to have members called Silver Axe and Wang Zhi, and some Zombie Generals on Thriller Bark, one of whom is Captain John, match the description of these other Rocks Pirates too, with one of them even being confirmed to be on God Valley. It seems that those from this crew who met their end of God Valley were eventually reincarnated as Gecko Moria's zombies.
All these connections seem far too perfect and deliberate to just be a coincidence. Of course, the major difference between the two is their appearance, since the giant mountain formations of God Valley aren't present on Thriller Bark. However, this theory claims that Thriller Bark is just a relatively smaller fragment of the island, not the entire island itself, which checks in with everything else and explains the difference in appearance between the two.
