This list contains spoilers up to the Elbaph arc in One Piece
It's well known that Garp is one of the strongest characters in all of One Piece, but the truth is, fans haven't actually gotten to see this Marine in action all that much throughout the story. Because Garp was in his prime long before Luffy first kicked off his adventure to become pirate king, it means that, in the main story, he tends to prefer letting the other Marines do the heavy lifting for him, but that's not to say he still hasn't gotten involved in a chaotic brawl every now and again.
One Piece: All of Garp's Students, Ranked by Strength
Garp's intense training regime in One Piece forged these characters into powerful warriors, but who reigns supreme in terms of overall strength?
Since Oda is very fond of inserting flashbacks into the One Piece story to help flash out important characters, these have also given fans a glimpse at how insanely powerful Garp truly was back in his heyday. As a result, while there have only been a few scenes in the series that have showcased Garp's underlying strength and abilities, it's still always a real treat to see the Hero of the Marines blowing up an island with a single punch or clashing with a dangerous pirate, in order to demonstrate why he is considered still such a threat.
Stopping Marco In His Tracks
With A Single Punch, Garp Prevented Marco From Getting Near Ace
- Episode: 476
Marco may come across as a little bit of a goofball on the surface, but behind the quirky appearance and persona, he is actually one of the strongest pirates on Whitebeard's crew, and a lot of that has to do with his Devil Fruit, which allows him to turn into a blue phoenix. In a desperate attempt to rescue Ace during the Marineford War, Marco activated his Zoan Devil Fruit and shot himself towards his longtime crewmate as fast as he possibly could, but his plan went horribly wrong once Garp entered the scene.
Though he was hesitant to do so, Garp made the decision to throw a heavy punch Marco's way, shooting him back down to the ground and forcing him to deactivate his own transformation. What makes this so impressive is that Marco has proven that he's not someone who can't be taken down easily. After all, this is the same pirate who single-handedly fought both King and Queen a little later in Wano, but while he's no pushover, even he knew that messing with Garp was only going to end in disaster.
Fighting Roger On Multiple Occasions
It Became Somewhat Of A Hobby For The Marine And Future Pirate King To Duke It Out
- Chapter: 1156
Back when Gol D. Roger was still sailing across the seas with his rag-tag crew of pirates, there were no Marines around who stood a chance of apprehending them due to their overwhelming strength, but Garp was the exception. While it had been mentioned many times that Garp would regularly get into fights with Roger any time he spotted him, it was only very recently in the Elbaph arc during Loki's flashback that fans actually got to see an image of this for themselves.
One Piece: Best Devil Fruits For Durability, Ranked
It's incredibly difficult to knock these One Piece pirates and marines on their backs due to their durable Devil Fruit abilities.
Just as everyone expected, these two don't exactly partake in an honorable duel when they see each other, as instead, they simply enjoy throwing fists and kicks to wear their opponent down as part of one big scrappy brawl. It's important to preface that Gol D. Roger, as shown in the flashbacks with him and Whitebeard, is absurdly strong, so the fact that Garp was willing to take him on all by himself on so many occasions is a truly impressive feat for a Marine.
Using Galaxy Impact On Pirate Island
All Just To Save One Marine
- Episode: 1114
While Koby was lucky enough to be sent to apprehend Boa Hancock after the Warlords had officially disbanded, his mission didn't exactly go the way he had hoped. After Blackbeard and his crew rocked up out of nowhere, they decided to take Kobe as a prisoner on Pirate Island, which inevitably caught the attention of none other than Garp, Koby's mentor. While it probably would have been enough for Garb to disembark and clobber anyone who dared to stand in his way, he instead decided to simply flatten almost the entire island with one single attack, Galaxy impact.
After leaping into the air and charging up his fist, Garp sent shockwaves through the entire Island with just a single strike, sending thousands of thugs and pirates running for their lives as they witnessed the Marine's incredible strength and power. This still stands as one of the most jaw-dropping showcases of power in all of One Piece, and a great way to highlight that even in his old age, Garp is still not someone to be messed with.
Punching Sanjuan Wolf Into The Sea
Garp Sent The Largest Man In The Series Flying Through The Sky
- Episode: 1114
Blackbeard has no shortage of formidable pirates in his crew, but one who sticks out like a sore thumb is Sanjuan Wolf, and the reason is because of his size. Thanks to possessing the Huge Huge fruit, Sanjuan Wolf is one of the largest known characters in all of One Piece, being even bigger than most giants. As a result, trying to deal any significant amount of damage to this guy is more or less impossible for a single person, unless that person is named Garp, that is.
Irritated that Sanjuan was getting in the way of his rescue mission, Garp decided it was time for the giant pirate to take a dip in the sea. As a result, he throws a massive punch that makes contact with Wolf's head, shooting him through the air only moments later. The fact that Garp is essentially an ant when compared to Sanjuan Wolf makes this power feat all the more impressive, to the point where it causes one to wonder how Garp could have been any stronger than this when he was younger, considering he is still managing to defeat someone the size of a giant with a single swing.
Taking On Aokiji
With Brute Strength And Willpower, Garp Resisted The Attacks Of A Former Admiral
- Episode: 1115
During his mission to rescue Kobe from Blackbeard, Garp ran into one of his former students, who was also once an Admiral in the Marines, Aokiji. Though Aokiji may have initially seemed confident that he would be able to freeze Garp in place with his ice abilities, the powerhouse was able to not only break through Aokiji's defenses, but also threw his ice blocks back at him by channeling his inner Haki.
One Piece: 39 Strongest Characters In The Series
These are the strongest characters to sail the seas of the One Piece world.
It's long been established that the Admirals are extremely dangerous due to how experienced they are in battle, yet Garp was more than happy to jump into a fight with his friend turned enemy, without ever worrying about losing his life in the process. Though Garp may not have won this fight due to some outside interference, the fact he was essentially toying around with a former Admiral for so long emphasizes that this guy still has what it takes to kick some butt, even though he may be reaching retirement age.
Defeating Rocks D. Xebec
Garp's Actions At God Valley Made Him The Hero Of The Marines
- Episode: 958 (First Mentioned)
As has been shown very recently in the Elbaph arc flashbacks, the man known as Rocks was an unstoppable monster when he was still up and coming as a pirate. This is the guy who was not only powerful enough to spookImu, but he also single-handedly killed an Admiral, and also went toe to toe with King Harald, a giant. Therefore, it soon became clear that the only Marine who even stood a chance of taking down not only Rocks, but his entire crew, was Garp. When God arrived at God Valley to confront Rocks, he admittedly also had a little help from his old rival, Roger.
Despite their differences, the two actually managed to get the job done, disbanding the Rocks Pirates once and for all and seemingly killing Rocks after a grueling battle. Roger may have been considered the Pirate King, but Rocks was the man who ruled the seas while he was still alive and kicking, but Garp was the one who managed to muster up the strength and willpower to take him down for good. While Garp did have some assistance, this is an accomplishment that still cannot be ignored when considering how immensely powerful Rocks really was when he was still a captain at the top of the world.
