The Holy Knights started the next phase of their mission, which was to force the Giants into erasing their history and siding with the World Government. Needless to say, the country was in trouble, and someone had to save it from annihilation. Up stepped Scopper Gaban and began fighting against the Holy Knights.
One Piece: Oda May Have Confirmed Chopper's Role In The Final War
Eiichiro Oda has big plans for Chopper in the Final Saga.
Scopper Gaban Defeated Shepherd Sommers
- Gaban easily defeated Sommers
- He rushed to save Collun but failed to do so
Scopper Gaban's first target was Shepherd Sommers, whose Iba Iba no Mi prevented Saul from rescuing the kids. After Saul's failure, Nico Robin decided to take out Sommers with a clone, but the Holy Knights saw through her plan. He captured her and decided to use his Devil Fruit power to hurt her. Things weren't looking good for Robin, but luckily, Scopper Gaban arrived in the nick of time and lopped off Sommers' hand.
At the time, fans believed Summers would regenerate and the Holy Knight would launch a counteroffensive, but that wasn't the case. Surprisingly, Gaban somehow managed to bypass the immortality of the Holy Knights and stop them from recovering from attacks. The fight between the two continued in One Piece Episode 1149, and it was clear that Gaban would win . Sommers tried to drag the fight, but Gaban was too quick and strong for him. It didn't take long for the latter to decimate the Holy Knight.
After beating Sommers, Gaban realized there was still time to save Elbaf from destruction. So he headed to the children's location to try to rescue them. Everything was going fine, and it looked increasingly likely that Elbaf would be saved. As he got closer, Collun shouted out that his father was coming to rescue them. Gunko immediately knew what she had to do. The Holy Knight swooped in and took away Collun. Gaban knew that he had to be quick; otherwise, he would lose Collun forever. Before leaping to attack, the Mountain Eater used Future Sight to see the outcome of his actions. Gaban saw Collun being stabbed through the neck, so he yielded. This gave Gunko the opportunity to beat Gaban.
Oda Has Used Similar Tropes Many Times
Gaban's defeat has upset many fans, and they want Oda to stop using this approach in future arcs. Fans have seen Oda utilize this tactic many times before. The most recent example is the defeat of Kozuki Oden. The legendary samurai was fighting Kaido, and he had the upper hand in the fight. It was obvious that Oden would win, but things changed when Kurozumi Higurashi turned into Momonosuke, causing the samurai to lower his guard. Kaido took advantage of it and landed a devastating blow on Oden, leading to the samurai's defeat. Now that Oda has done something similar in the Elbaf arc, fans are naturally annoyed.
However, they must understand that these decisions are needed to advance the story. If Gaban hadn't been beaten, the arc would be over in just a few chapters. He would have decimated Gunko and then taken out Killingham. After the Holy Knights had been dealt with, Gaban would have rescued the kids, including his son.
Imu Takes Over Gunko's Body
The Holy Knight No Longer Controls Her Actions
Towards the end of Chapter 1149, fans saw Gunko's body being taken over by Imu. They were disappointed with the performance of the Holy Knights, as they were expecting the group to get the job quickly. In the final panel, Imu said they would show God's dominance.
Allow mu to show you... The dominance of god!!! —Imu
In the next chapter, Imu will reveal their strength. Fans already know that Imu has access to a plethora of Devil Fruit powers, but it's now been confirmed that they also use Haki. While Imu has yet to use Haki in combat, it's safe to say that their Haki is easily among the strongest. They have been alive since the Void Century, so they must have mastered it completely. One Piece Chapter 1150 will give fans a better idea of what Imu can do with their Haki.
