With each passing year, the end of One Piece edges closer, and fans are dreading the conclusion of this absolutely brilliant story that has continued for 28 years now. One Piece is an absolute masterpiece that keeps on getting better with each passing chapter, and while fans do not want this story to end anytime soon, given how massive the world is and how much is left to explore, they also cannot help but be intrigued by what Oda has planned for the ending of the series.
The story is in the final saga right now, so it goes without saying that Oda will slowly reveal bits and pieces of the ending. In fact, that has already happened with the Egghead arc, which has set the stage for the most important characters to finally step in and take the world by storm in an incredibly turbulent era. Elbaf, which is the ongoing arc, has become the prelude to the end of the series, and at this point, it is only a matter of time before the final war finally kickstarts.
Curiously enough, Oda has actually already revealed how he wants to end One Piece. Fans who don't understand Japanese might have missed Oda's actual message because his interviews are only held in Japanese, but a big part of One Piece's ending is actually already quite clear.
A Great War Is Coming At The End Of One Piece
Oda Teased A Great War Long Ago
- Oda reiterated the Great War in Elbaf
- The Void Century War will resume soon
One Piece's ending will most certainly have multiple stages, the first of which Oda has already highlighted in the story. Before the end of One Piece, a Great War will befall the world, and this war will see the continuation of the clash held in the Void Century. As was made clear in the Egghead arc, a massive war that lasted over a century took place around 900 years ago and ended close to 800 years ago with the death of a figure named Joy Boy. This war period was completely wiped out from the history of the earth, and this particular time period is now known as the Void Century. The Void Century itself is at the center of all the mysteries of the One Piece world, and the Final Saga is going to shed a tremendous amount of light on it.
I have seen it. A Great War that will engulf the whole world is coming, and this is the prelude to it. — Gunko, Elbaf
Onwards to now, around 800 years later after the death of Joy Boy, the Great War that once engulfed the World of One Piece will resume once again. Elbaf, in particular, is said to be the prelude of this Great War, and the time has come for a massive change to erupt in the world of One Piece. This Great War will engulf the whole world, and it will most likely end with the destruction of the World Government and the defeat of Imu. This is something that fans know already, but Oda has also revealed what comes after the Great War in his brilliant interviews as well.
Oda Wants To End One Piece In A Big Party
Oda Won't Kill Off Too Many Characters In The Final War
According to Oda, at the end of One Piece, Luffy will hold a massive party and celebrate with just about everyone. This is quite a huge spoiler about the ending of the series that Oda himself has given to the fans, and it goes to show what tone he wants to set for the conclusion of the series.
And that's what lies at the end of my dream after becoming the Pirate King! — Luffy to his crew
Oda has been asked about why he doesn't like to kill off too many characters in his story previously, and the main reason he stated was that if he were to kill off too many characters, then having big celebrations at the end of each arc would be impossible for him. For Oda, the concept of a banquet is directly tied to connecting different races, and as such, is a core theme of One Piece in itself. If he kills too many characters, then doing so would be impossible for him, which is why he limits the number of deaths as much as possible.
It was in this very same interview that Oda quite clearly stated that he wants to end One Piece in an absolutely massive party. This party is likely what is going to unite the whole world, with all the races holding a huge banquet with Luffy under the sun, standing as equals.
The reason I don't want to draw scenes where people die is that I want to draw a party after the battle. If someone dies, you can't have an enjoyable party. A party is my ideal form of friendship. I want to end with One Piece with a big party. — Eiichiro Oda
Luffy Will Achieve His Goal At The End Of The Story
Luffy's True Goal Will Be Accomplished After Becoming Pirate King
The fact that Oda has already stated in his story that One Piece will end in a big party also means that Luffy will accomplish his goal come the end. After all, if Imu were to win the final battle, then a huge party is absolutely not going to be held at the end of One Piece.
The same can be said for Blackbeard as well, because if he were to become the Pirate King and win the race to the One Piece, then the world would be turned into a chaotic place with nowhere that can be called safe. In fact, Blackbeard canonically holds many slaves on the Pirate Island, and an individual like him certainly would not care about holding big banquets but for his own crew. As such, it is going to be impossible for all the races in the world to unite and hold a big banquet.
Luffy's success on the path to becoming the Pirate King is imperative for Oda's final ending to be realized, and that already tells the fans that he will be the one who stands as the King at the end of the story. Not only that, but he will also be the one who brings down the current world order as the Sun God Nika.
The Straw Hat Pirates Will Disband At The End Of One Piece
Each Straw Hat Will Go To Their Own Final Destination
Another incredibly massive part of the ending that Oda has given away previously is the disbandment of the crew. Once Luffy and the Straw Hats end the Great War, the crew will most certainly disband. This is because multiple members of the crew have people waiting for them in their hometowns, and eventually, they will have to head back. For instance, Usopp has Kaya waiting for him in Syrup Village, and Nami has her own family back in Cocoyashi Village. Similarly, Sanji has people waiting for him at Baratie, while Brook will meet Laboon, and so on and so forth.
The Straw Hats will eventually disband and go their own ways. Luffy might still continue his adventure as the Pirate King and live a laid-back life of adventure, but for the vast majority of the Straw Hats, this adventure is going to come to an end sooner rather than later. Sad as that might be, it will be a fitting conclusion for the story that fans absolutely cannot wait to see.
