Summary
- Most Devil Fruits in One Piece have some sort of offensive power, and some are more lethal than others.
- Some Devil Fruits, like Doku Doku no Mi, produce highly fatal substances.
- Specific Devil Fruits like the Magu Magu no Mi have extreme offensive power, and are among the strongest in the series.
The vast majority of Devil Fruits in One Piece have a level of offensive power. Virtually any Devil Fruit that can be used to attack is also capable of killing people. Even so, some Devil Fruit powers prove significantly easier to kill with than others.
One Piece: Every Yonko’s Main Ship
These are the primary ships utilized by each known pirate crew of Yonko status in One Piece.
This usually ties into the Devil Fruit being naturally powerful in some manner, producing a fatal substance, or otherwise involving death as a side effect of their given ability. Though Devil Fruit powers can grow and change along with their user, these Devil Fruits all appear naturally deadly, when taking their abilities and uses into consideration.
7 Doku Doku no Mi
Poison Power
- User(s): Magellan
The Doku Doku no Mi is a Devil Fruit which can create a variety of poisons diverse in strength and appearance. While one poison can be curable, the poisons can overlap if an individual is subjected to multiple, and ultimately kill them with ease, presuming one poison doesn't do the job. The user can also armor themselves with poison, preventing foes from physically attacking them, from fear of being poisoned themselves.
Without a mixture of intensive hormone therapy and his natural strength, Monkey D. Luffy would've died due to the various poisons he had been exposed to via the Doku Doku no Mi. Instead, he is now resistant to many forms of poison. However, most lack the unique circumstances which allowed for his survival, and instead have a tendency to die upon poison exposure.
6 Gasu Gasu no Mi
It's In The Air
- User(s): Caesar Clown
Caesar Clown is a scientist who has experience in bioweapon creation. He is able to make the most out of his Gasu Gasu no Mi. Beyond creating purely poisonous gas, Caesar Clown can also merge unstable gases with castanets to make them explosive. He calls them "gastanets." He also has a limited level of control over oxygen, being able to remove it from an immediate area, instantly defeating a number of opponents close by, and using it to power a lighter/sword with an oxidized flame.
Caesar's toxicity has been compared to the Doku Doku no Mi by Luffy, who is resistant to its own brand of poison due to his exposure to the former, though Caesar himself is offended by the comparison. Caesar's poisons have fatal implications and likely would've killed Luffy if not for his built-up resistance.
5 Goro Goro no Mi
High Voltage
- User(s): Enel
The Goro Goro no Mi allowed Enel to transition from a mere Birkan to a "God." Enel is capable of creating, controlling, and becoming lightning. Beyond shocking, burning, and otherwise electrifying enemies, Enel's ability can also be used to power objects, read electric waves, and even restart his body if he suffers cardiac arrest.
Luffy's own immunity, in this case due to the rubbery properties of his own Devil Fruit power, once again makes him the exception and not the rule. Beyond using his power to terrify the citizens of Skypiea, Enel destroyed his own native home of Birka with the powers of the Goro Goro no Mi.
4 Ope Ope no Mi
Playing Doctor
- User(s) Trafalgar D. Water Law
The Ope Ope no Mi is a Devil Fruit with fatal implications, possibly even for the user itself. This Devil Fruit requires a level of medical knowledge to operate, allowing the user to effectively put a patient's life in their hands when they step into the dimension known as the ROOM. This ability can non-fatally cut users, allowing their bodies to be re-arranged and their organs to be removed with no harm done to their actual person.
One Piece: 8 Most Selfless Devil Fruits, Ranked
Rather than enhancing the user, these Devil Fruits in One Piece are designed to help out others in times of crisis.
That said, this ability can easily be utilized in such a way that actual harm will come to those affected, if the user so desires. This can be done by removing a vital organ, such as a heart, and destroying it while it is removed from the user's body, which remotely kills them. This was first seen when Trafalgar D. Water Law was cooperating with Caesar Clown. Law swapped out Smoker's heart for Monet's, returning the latter to Caesar Clown. Once he stabbed Monet's heart in an effort to kill Smoker, the implications were fatal for the former.
The Ope Ope no Mi also has the ability to gift eternal youth through a procedure known as the Perennial Youth Operation, which is fatal for the user. It is speculated that Imu, the covert Supreme Ruler of the World Government, had this procedure, which would add credence to the idea of them being involved in the Void Century and the creation of the World Government. Though Donquixote Doflamingo wished for Law to gift eternal youth to him, the young pirate presently remains alive, and has yet to perform the operation.
3 Magu Magu no Mi
Scorched Earth
- User(s): Sakazuki "Akainu"
The Magu Magu no Mi is said to have the highest level of offensive power in the One Piece series as far as Devil Fruits go. It is a Logia, meaning its user can become magma in addition to creating and controlling it. The magma this devil fruit produces has been shown to kill people and destroy environments. It burnt down Moby Dick, the flagship of the Whitebeard Pirates, during the Summit War, and permanently modified the climate of Punk Hazard, along with the Hie Hie no Mi, when their users dueled over who would become Fleet Admiral, a duel which Sakazuki won.
Most notably, the Magu Magu no Mi killed Portgas D. Ace with an attack meant for his sworn brother, Luffy. Ace jumped in front of Luffy to save his life, but ended up dying with his internal organs badly burned due to suffering a direct hit from the Devil Fruit powers. This event cemented a grudge Luffy held against Akainu in particular.
2 Kage Kage no Mi
Overshadowing (and Undershadowing)
- User(s): Gecko Moria
The Kage Kage no Mi allows its user a level of control over shadows. They can steal shadows from victims' bodies and attach them to corpses, effectively creating "zombies." This ability can also be used to transfer shadows to the user, or swap places with their own.
One Piece: 7 Worst Things About Eating A Devil Fruit
From being ostracized to losing the ability to touch the sea forever, here are some of the worst things about eating a devil fruit
Ironically, the immediate fatal implications of this Devil Fruit are more tied to the side effects of its powers. Shadowless individuals vaporize to death in the sunlight, meaning the user can actively kill someone by simply de-shadowing them and exposing them to the sun. But for a user like Moria, this is not in his best interest, as his heavy reliance on the shadows of others makes killing them counterproductive, as shadows cannot be controlled after their owners are killed. However, he had inadvertently killed marine grunts during the Summit War when using their shadows to power his zombies.
1 Soru Soru no Mi
Soul Sucking
- User(s) Charlotte "Big Mom" Linlin, "Mother" Carmel
This Devil Fruit allows the user to manipulate lifespans, otherwise identified as souls. It was previously eaten by Mother Carmel, a covert child trafficker. However, Charlotte Linlin, her most promising candidate, ended up appearing to inadvertently eat her and the power along with it. Linlin has used the Soru Soru no Mi to fuel her infrastructure, creating beings known as homies from the lifespans she had stolen. Linlin regularly taxes the citizens of her domain, Totto Land, making them exchange their lifespan to stay alive on the island. Emigration is apparently disallowed, largely guaranteeing an influx of lifespan proportional to the residents present.
Unlike Moria, Linlin has comparatively little incentive to let her victims stay alive, and has been seen actively killing individuals, such as Zepo, to obtain the entirety of their remaining lifespans. In a hunger-fueled tantrum, Linlin even used this power to kill her own son, Moscato. Though this same incident proved the ability is potentially reversible, as Charlotte Mont D'or ordered the Incarnations, the homies who collect the taxes, to retrieve Moscato's lifespan in a successful bid to revive him. The Soru Soru no Mi has one minor caveat, those who do not fear Linlin are unaffected by its powers.
