Anime fans love the heroes of One Piece as stylish fighters with cool abilities, and their battles often have a strong emotional impact, too. Some of those fights also shake the entire world's plot across all the islands, such as Luffy's victory over Kaido or Blackbeard defeating Whitebeard at Marineford. Plot and emotions come first in One Piece when these fights unfold, but fans still care about statistics, too. For example, tracking the win rates of One Piece's most powerful fighters is great fun.

Monkey D. Luffy himself has a relatively modest win rate of roughly 61%, since he often loses to powerful foes like Crocodile or Kaido once or twice before he eventually defeats them in battle. That's why other characters have surpassed One Piece's rubbery hero in the win/loss rankings, including two of his crewmates. Six particular One Piece cast members command a great deal of respect as people who win much more often than they lose, and two of them have never known defeat at all.

Vinsmoke Sanji Usually Wins as Luffy's #3 Crewmate

Sanji Has Only Gotten Stronger Thanks to His Raid Suit

Vinsmoke Sanji's win rate may not be the highest in all of One Piece, but he still ranks 6th because he is a fantastically powerful Straw Hat pirate who tends to fight the 3rd strongest antagonist in any story arc. That's the pattern, with Sanji being #3 among the Straw Hats while fighting his equal among the villains. Sanji may not like being narrowly outperformed by Zoro in terms of rankings and win rates, but he's still one of the most successful and formidable characters in One Piece. Being a member of the "monster trio," Sanji could do no less. It's only in Luffy's elite crew where Sanji feels like he plays second fiddle.

As a whole, Sanji has a truly impressive combat record to his name. Just like his captain Luffy and his rival Zoro, Sanji regularly trains and ups his game as a fighter, even if he has no Devil Fruit to wield in battle. Sanji's martial arts training, Haki, and his Raid Suit do all the heavy lifting, and the results speak for themselves. Sanji is one of a few examples of characters who keep the Devil Fruit combat system humble by using everything except those supernatural fruits. Fallen foes like Mr. 2, Queen, Jabra, and Absalom can all attest to that.

Roronoa Zoro Vowed to Never Lose Again

Zoro's Record Isn't Perfect, But It's Enough as Luffy's #2 Crewmate

Given his position as the #2 fighter among the Straw Hats and the first character whom Luffy ever recruited, it's only natural that Roronoa Zoro boasts one of One Piece's most stellar combat records. Zoro has actually commented on this, with him tearfully shouting that he will never lose again. That may not be literally true, but a perfect record is an awful lot for any shonen hero to ask for, and Zoro has come impressively close to meeting his own demand. His win rate may not be 100%, yet it's one of the highest in all of One Piece.

Bleach: 6 Characters With The Highest Win Rate, Ranked

More often than not, these Bleach characters were coming out on top.

If fans only count real fights, and not Zoro's countless losses to Kuina in his childhood, Zoro has a strong win rate that surpasses Luffy's own. After his initial loss to Dracule Mihawk, a former Warlord of the Sea, Zoro has been on a winning streak. He cut steel when he defeated Mr. 1 in Alubarna, only to topple mighty foes like Pica and even King the Conflagration in the New World. With all these victories and his astonishing skills, One Piece fans are confident that Zoro is poised to surpass or at least match his longtime rival, Mihawk.

Kaido Has Scored Countless Victories and Rarely Loses to Anyone

Kaido's Final Defeat Dethroned Him as an Emperor

The Emperors tend to have high win rates and refuse to lose to just anybody. It takes a titanic effort to even match an Emperor in battle, let alone defeat or kill one, and Kaido has nothing to fear in that regard. He actually has experienced defeat before, but that's rather rare, and the specter of death will never catch him. Kaido is the immortal monster of the New World, and his infinite endurance is how he scored so many wins over his countless foes over the decades. That, and he can hit back with astonishing power with his iron club, dragon jaws, and his flame attack.

On-screen, Kaido only took part in a few battles, but he did win most of them to reinforce the idea that he nearly always wins his fights. Kaido overcame Luffy a few times, even when intoxicated, and Kaido scored a temporary victory when he knocked out Gear 4 Luffy at Onigashima. It flatters Kaido a great deal how only the game-breaking power of Gear 5 could humble him on the field of battle, because it seems no "normal" power can lay him low.

Kuina Won Many Duels, But it Didn't Matter to Her in the End

Kuina's Death Made Her a Plot Device For Zoro

Kuina died at age 13, long before she could even try to become a grown swordswoman who could challenge other warriors in battle. That's why One Piece fans can only count practice bouts for Kuina's win rate, and amusingly, the results put even Emperors and pirate captains to shame. This is a comment not on Kuina's power level, but on the fact that she was Zoro's superior during training. That made things intensely personal for both Kuina and Zoro, where power levels mattered little. It takes more than strength to make a compelling fighter or character arc in One Piece.

Itachi, Pain, and Naruto Uzumaki
Naruto: 6 Characters With The Highest Win Rate, Ranked

You knew that more often than not, these Naruto characters were going to win whatever fight they were in.

In the realm of sword training, Kuina boasts 2,001 wins against Zoro and no losses, meaning her combat record is simply staggering. That infuriated Zoro, but Kuina feared that a girl like her could never become a real fighter once she and Zoro grew up. Kuina felt that the battlefield was a man's domain, not a woman's, but plenty of characters proved Kuina wrong, from Big Mom and Tashigi to Ulti and Gunko. Fans may also note how Kuina's incredible performance against Zoro was later reduced to a mere plot device to motivate Zoro as he grew up, diminishing Kuina's undeniably awesome combat record.

Shanks Enjoys a Short But Perfect Combat Record in One Piece

Emperors Like Shanks Don't Lose to Just Anyone

The Emperors of the New World are never easy to defeat, and notably, two of them have never been known to lose any fights at all. One of them is red-haired Shanks, who can strike even against even the strongest fighters with just a sword, one arm, and his Haki. Notably, Shanks held back all of his power when Higuma's mountain bandits terrorized Windmill Village. That showcased Shanks' noble restraint and compassion, with him unwilling to cause bloodshed if it can be avoided. Characters like Shanks are loved because they're responsible with their strength.

As for his win rate, Shanks has only rarely battled anyone, but he's never been defeated, and a perfect record cannot be beat. Shanks and Mihawk are both in this position, with the deciding factor being the number of fights that each pirate has won. Shanks has fewer confirmed victories to his name, so he will settle for second place among all One Piece win rates. That wouldn't bother Shanks at all, given what a kind and gracious person he is, one who values heroics over proving his might to the world.

Dracule Mihawk Has Notched Many Impressive Victories and Never Lost

That's Why Mihawk is Zoro's Top Rival in the Grand Line

Dracule Mihawk Stronger Than Zoro And Sanji one piece

Just like his sword-slinging counterpart Shanks, the cold-blooded Dracule Mihawk simply does not lose on the field of battle. His Observation Haki and his oversized sword, Yoru, are all he needs to defeat any foe of any type. Mihawk's skill is so vast, he can take down Zoro with a pocket knife, as he famously did early in One Piece's story. Zoro has gotten exponentially stronger since then, but Zoro still cannot surpass Mihawk's perfect win rate. Instead, Zoro will have to settle for trying to defeat Mihawk just once to prove something about himself.

Another parallel between Shanks and Mihawk is that each of them lets their swords do the talking and is reluctant to boast, even if their skills and combat records are the stuff of legend. Mihawk is colder about it, though, since he's not the type to give up an arm to save a drowning boy. His motive is more self-serving: to ease his boredom as the top swordsman by finding a worthy rival, like Zoro himself.
