Roronoa Zoro is one of the wings of Monkey D. Luffy, which makes him an important character. Since Zoro's specialty is swordsmanship, it is his responsibility to deal with any enemies that could potentially harm Luffy's dream or one of his crewmates.

One Piece: 8 Most Important Story Arcs For Zoro, Ranked

Zoro has grown a lot as a character, both emotionally and power-wise, but it was these arcs that pushed him to develop as a character in One Piece.

Zoro's fighting style is unorthodox, as he uses three swords instead of one or two. However, it has earned him a great deal of success. Zoro has fought many enemies throughout the story, and he has won most of his battles, including those he didn't deserve to win. With that in mind, here are all the characters who should have won their fights with Zoro.

This post contains spoilers for One Piece.

King

Affiliation: Beasts Pirates

  • Devil Fruit: Ryu Ryu no Mi, Model: Pteranodon
  • Haki: Armament and Observation

King was the right-hand man of Kaido, the strongest creature in the world, and as a result, fans had a great deal of expectation from the Lunarian. King's lineage granted him immense physical abilities and made it almost impossible for an individual to hurt him. King also had the Ryu Ryu no Mi, Model: Pteranodon, an Ancient Zoan-type Devil Fruit that allowed him to turn into the prehistoric creature of the same name.

His Lunarian abilities, coupled with the Devil Fruit, made King a nightmare to fight. Zoro got a taste of King's power fairly early on, and the Straw Hat realized that it wasn't going to be a straightforward victory. For the majority of the fight, King had the upper hand while Zoro was trying to figure out a way to bypass the Lunarian's defenses. It was pretty clear that Zoro was not on the required level to beat King.

However, Oda needed to give Zoro the victory, so he propelled King into rushing to end the fight. This was the opportunity that Zoro needed, and he took it with both hands. In a fair scenario, King would have beaten Zoro by simply stalling and letting Enma drain all of his Haki. As a veteran fighter, King would have had the brains to figure out that the best approach would have been to stall. Unfortunately, Oda had to make Zoro win at all costs.

Rob Lucci

Affiliation: World Government, Cipher Pol

  • Devil Fruit: Neko Neko no Mi, Model: Leopard
  • Haki: Armament and Observation

Lucci met Zoro for the first time in Water 7, but they didn't fight until the Egghead arc. The two had grown a lot stronger since their first encounter, so everything pointed to an excellent fight. Lucci had awakened his Devil Fruit, which made him physically stronger. Additionally, Lucci had improved his Haki control as well.

One Piece: 7 Things Zoro Can Do That Luffy Can't

As the captain of the Straw Hat Pirates, there's a lot that Luffy can do on his own, but wherever he stumbles, his right-hand man, Zoro, has his back.

When Lucci and Zoro clashed in Egghead, it looked clear that the fight was going to be a close one. Both fighters knew that in order to win, they had to give it their all. So, none of them was holding back. Lucci was using his Devil Fruit and Rokushiki to keep Zoro on the back foot, but the latter turned the tide in his favor with Enma.

Daz Bones

Affiliation: Baroque Works, Cross Guild

Daz Bones using his devil fruit During One Piece's Summit War
  • Devil Fruit: Supa Supa no Mi
  • Haki: None

Daz Bones, also known as Mr. 1, was Crocodile's most loyal underling. He was always ready to fight by his boss's side and to carry out his orders. In the Alabasta arc, Daz Bones fought Roronoa Zoro. The former was dead set on stopping the Straw Hat from progressing any further.

For Zoro, the battle was particularly difficult, as Daz Bones' Devil Fruit allowed him to turn any part of his body into sharp blades. The assassin from Baroque Works caused Zoro all kinds of problems. In fact, the fight looked destined to end when Mr. 1 used a powerful attack that struck Zoro's torso. The strike's potency caused the pillar behind Zoro to be diced into several pieces.

Logically, Zoro should have died on the spot or at least should have been unable to move. Instead, he figured out a way to cut steel and ultimately defeated Daz Bones. It's understandable why Zoro didn't die, as he is not a real person but rather a hero in a shonen series. However, it's quite bizarre to see him winning the fight.

Kaku

Affiliation: World Government, Cipher Pol

Kaku from One Piece
  • Devil Fruit: Ushi Ushi no Mi, Model: Giraffe
  • Haki: Armament and Observation

Kaku is a former CP9 agent who served as one of the main antagonists of the Enies Lobby arc. Like the rest of the agents, Kaku was tasked with the responsibility of stopping the Straw Hats from reaching Nico Robin, and as it turned out, his opponent was Roronoa Zoro.

It is worth remembering that Kaku was superior to Zoro in the Water 7 arc, and his power was further amplified after consuming the Devil Fruit. Despite being a new Devil Fruit user, Kaku was able to use his power rather well. He came up with the idea of using the long body of a giraffe to enhance the power of his kicks. With his Rokushiki and Devil Fruit, Kaku gave Zoro a torrid time, and at no point did it seem that the CP9 agent would lose. However, Oda gave Zoro the Ashura power-up, which allowed the Straw Hat to overcome Kaku. Realistically, Kaku should have won the fight.
