This article contains spoilers from Jujutsu Kaisen's last chapter.

Summary

  • Shinjuku Showdown was JJK's last arc
  • Sukuna was defeated at the end of JJK
  • Fans await Gege's next manga project after JJK.

The Weekly Shonen Jump magazine was home to some of the most incredible manga as of late. After the conclusion of heavy hitters, such as Bleach and Naruto, a void was left, which eventually came to be filled by the likes of the new generation of shonen manga, such as My Hero Academia and, of course, Jujutsu Kaisen. However, unfortunately, these manga were never meant to be as massive as the likes of the ones that they replaced.

Jujutsu Kaisen: Sukuna's Final Shocking Fate, Explained

Jujutsu Kaisen just killed off a major character. But are they really gone for good?

While the likes of One Piece, which is the last remaining manga from the Big Three, continues strong with over 1100 chapters, Jujutsu Kaisen ended with chapter 271. The conclusion of Jujutsu Kaisen was a massive blow to the weekly Shonen Jump magazine, leaving it with just a handful of heavy hitters at the moment. That said, for the author, this is a major accomplishment, and something that he earned praise from even the likes of Oda.

The End Of Jujutsu Kaisen Saw Sukuna Finally Fall

  • Shinjuku Showdown Was JJK's Last Arc
  • Sukuna Was Defeated At The End Of JJK

The conclusion of Jujutsu Kaisen came after the Shinjuku Showdown arc. This arc saw the sorcerers finally take on Sukuna, the ultimate villain of the series, and it's safe to say that this arc had its ups and downs. Fans got treated to one of the biggest battles in all of Shonen ever, which was the clash between Gojo and Sukuna. This exciting battle was certainly the peak of this entire arc. From there onwards, there were fleeting moments of excitement here and there, which eventually resulted in Yuji defeating the King of Curses, thanks to help from many other sorcerers. With Yuji’s victory, the aftermath of the war began, and fans saw how the Jujutsu system had now changed. Of course, this part of the story was incredibly rushed, and many character arcs did not even get resolved.

However, the author was dead set on ending the manga here, and he certainly did that in quite some style. At the end of things, Yuji Itadori, Megumi Fushiguro, and Nobara continued the ways of sorcerers and did their best to change the system the best way they could. This was a brilliant story from start to finish, but, of course, when one thinks of how it ended, there was certainly a lot of potential there. The series could have ended in a much better way had the author's health not deteriorated as much as it did over the course of the last year or so, but, the fact that he still managed to deliver a somewhat reasonable ending was certainly appreciated by the fans.

Fans also loved to see Sukuna finally understand the meaning of love, which was taught to him by none other than Yuji at the end. Meanwhile, Gojo received an ending that many fans despised, but, regardless, he remains the most popular character in this entire franchise. There are other characters who got exciting endings as well, but some others, such as Megumi and Nobara, suffered greatly in the grand scheme of things. Hopefully, later down the line, at some point, fans will get a few one-shots or a continuation of the series, which will greatly help solidify the character arcs that were abandoned at the end of the series.

Oda's Message for Gege Akutami

Oda Thanks Gege For His Incredible Effort

One piece anime characters: Monkey D. Luffy, Roronoa Zoro, Sanji, Nami, and Usopp

Upon the conclusion of Jujutsu Kaisen, it was only natural that most authors who work in Jump and some others outside of it congratulated Gege. It would be an understatement to say that Jujutsu Kaisen was a success. This manga has already 100 million copies in print, and that certainly says a lot. It is safe to say that Jujutsu Kaisen is a global phenomenon, thanks to its incredible anime series which has only done considerably well to boost its massive popularity even further. Fans have come to love the series from all over the world, and it is a surprise to see many seasoned mangaka congratulate Gege for his brilliant work.

Oda specifically focused on his incredible 6.5 years of work in the Jump magazine and congratulated him for putting out quality week after week. At the same time, Oda also hoped to have a meal with him once again and share various ideas, which just goes to show that these two have a close relationship, after all. Here's what Oda had to say about Gege Akutami's Jujutsu Kaisen finally concluding:

“Akutami-kun! Congratulations on six and a half incredible years! Take a nice long rest, then come grab a meal with me again sometime!!”

It is clear from the message that Oda's words are full of admiration for Gege and his work, and that he realizes that now, it's time for him to rest. Fans should also keep that in mind, especially knowing that Gege was hospitalized recently due to an appendix surgery while he was drawing the battle between Yuta and Sukuna. He must take a long time to recuperate, but, at the end of things, fans know for a fact that he will return to the Jump magazine with a new work. It could also be a continuation of Jujutsu Kaisen in some form. However, for now, he probably isn't focusing on that.

What Will Gege Akutami's Next Work Be?

Gege's Next Manga Project Is Unknown At This Point

Right now, it is hard to predict what Gege's next work is going to be. Clearly, he has a penchant for horror, and at the same time, fans know that he draws action incredibly well. He will likely continue in Weekly Shonen Jump and draw a series like Jujutsu Kaisen, with a unique touch. Given that he has already demonstrated his incredible skills as a writer with Jujutsu Kaisen, fans know for a fact that his next work is going to be incredibly exciting as well, with readers all over the world eagerly waiting for it whenever it drops.

It is also possible that Gege's next work is going to be a continuation of Jujutsu Kaisen. If that is to be the case, then fans would be absolutely delighted. There are many loose ends in the series still, as great as its ending was. Fans would love to see all those things being tackled, as well as a continuation showcasing the lives of Yuji Itadori and his mates a few years into the future. The world of Jujutsu sorcery would certainly look even more exciting later down the line, and it would certainly make for a great story as well.

Above all, what fans know for sure is that Gege isn't done. His great talent as a mangaka will shine once again later down the line, perhaps in a few years’ time. He is also not the only author who is looking to continue writing more works. Horikoshi, who was also one of the most acclaimed authors in Jump until recently, also finished his story, My Hero Academia, earlier this year. He is highly likely to return to Jump at some point later down the line as well, which means that while Jump might be a bit short on exciting manga at the moment, with time, the heavy hitters are sure to return and add more flavor to it once again.

Jujutsu Kaisen concluded recently with Chapter 271. The series can be read via the Shonen Jump and Manga Plus apps.
