Okami is one of the most-beloved PlayStation 2 games, earning widespread critical acclaim and becoming a cult classic in its own right. The game has since been ported to other platforms, given an HD upgrade, and even received a 3DS spin-off called Okamiden. Now it appears as though a proper Okami 2 may very well be in the works, and it could be in development from Platinum Games.

It's worth pointing out that even though Hideki Kamiya created Okami, Capcom owns the rights to the IP. However, Kamiya visited the Capcom offices last year, so maybe that meeting was to discuss a possible collaboration between the two companies that would allow Platinum to work on Okami 2.

Nakamura, meanwhile, recent left her position as creative director of Ghostwire: Tokyo. It's possible that she will be working on Okami 2 in some capacity, though that hasn't been confirmed or denied at this time.

Before Okami fans get too excited about this announcement, it's worth pointing out that it's possible that the Okami 2 announcement is a joke. Then again, it came mere hours after Capcom said it wanted to revisit its dormant franchises, and Okami would certainly fit that description. Plus, Nakamura worked on Okami as an artist, so it wouldn't be a stretch for her to be involved with the sequel.

The Okami games, for the uninitiated, play very similarly to Nintendo's The Legend of Zelda franchise. However, they stand out thanks to their cel-shaded, hugely Japanese art style, which won awards back in the day. If Okami 2 is in development, one has to imagine that the game will retain the style of gameplay that made the original so popular, while delivering updated graphics and brand new gameplay mechanics. It seems as though the game is in the very earliest stages of development, if it's in the works at all, so it may be quite some time before fans learn more about the project.
