Wordle went viral back in early 2022, and it became massively popular. Because this game popped up everywhere on social media, others were quick to copy Wordle's winning formula. In order to play the original version and the subject of this article, players will need to go to the New York Times Games site or Crossword app. Other versions may have different answers or slightly different rules, like the Wordle clone that has dog breeds as answers called Dogsdle.

First things first: players need to start by choosing a starter word. This word must be five letters long and a real English word that's not a proper noun. Wordle answers are never offensive words, are rarely non-American versions of words, and are never plural nouns ending in S. There are yet to be any repeat answers, so players may want to avoid all previous Wordle answers.

Next, type the chosen starting Wordle word into the site and press enter. This will cause the letters to change colors, and this will give players some clues to the answer.

Letters that turn green are right and in the right place or places in the word.
Yellow letters are right, but are in the wrong location in the word.
Gray letters are incorrect.

Players have a total of six tries to get to the answer before they lose the game. There is only one puzzle a day, and those will reset daily at midnight local time. In order to see how much time is left until a new puzzle is ready, players can check the Wordle menu, which pops up automatically when the puzzle is complete or players can click the graph icon in the upper right-hand corner of the screen.
