First, make sure to head to the right site. When it got very popular, a ton of copycats and clones of Wordle sprung up all over the net. The original version, and the subject of this article, is the New York Times Games version. Other Wordles may have different rules and answers than what is listed here.
Once players are at the right site, they will need to choose a starting Wordle word. This word:
- Must be five letters long and real English word.
- Cannot be a proper noun.
- Should contain five different common letters like I, R, L, S, or others.
- Should not be a previous puzzle answer.
- Should not be an offensive word.
After choosing a great starter, type it into the Wordle website and press enter. This will cause the letters of the chosen word to change colors. Here's what those different colors mean:
- Green letters are right.
- Gray letters are wrong.
- Yellow letters are right but in the wrong place in the word.
