Wordle is a simple-to-learn word puzzle game by the New York Times Games. This little game challenges players to figure out a five-letter word every day in just six tries. Some players might need a hint or two to make it through with a win.

How To Play Wordle

Wordle went viral back in early 2022. The original version, which was coded by Josh Wardle of powerlanguage, was purchased by the New York Times Games in February. While there are now loads of copycats out there, this is the version that this article is about. Other versions will have different answers and may even have slightly different rules.

First, head to the New York Times Games Wordle site. Players can also play Wordle on the New York Times Crossword app. Next, players will need to choose a starting word this word:

Must be five letters long and a real English word.
Cannot be a proper noun.
Should contain five common letters like R, S, T, or I.

Once a good starting Wordle word has been chosen, type it into the site and press enter. This will cause the letters to change colors. The colors will give players clues to the answer.

Green letters are correct.
Gray letters are incorrect.
Yellow letters are right but in the wrong place in the word.

Given these clues, players need to keep trying new words and getting new clues until they run out of the six total tries or they guess the word. Puzzles reset daily at midnight local time.
