Magic can be a dangerous force in the world of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered, and one unlucky player accidentally paralyzed their own character for 66 years. It has been almost a month since Oblivion Remastered was released, and players have been busy finding fun things to do in the open world of Cyrodiil. Just like in the original, Oblivion Remastered lets fans explore at their own pace, and a great many have admitted to not even bothering to complete the main plotline of saving the world from the dark forces of Oblivion.
Instead, Oblivion Remastered players have been busy finding new bugs, customizing their playable character however they see fit, and reporting fun and bizarre enemy encounters. Some of the more notable Heroes of Kvatch have racked up outlandishly high bounties on themselves, attempted to keep Kvatch guards alive during raids on Oblivion with disastrous results, and even spent a large amount of time putting together chains of book dominos. However, if the player isn’t careful, they could end up spending even more time trapped in a magic prison of their own making.
Most Oblivion Remastered Players Aren't Bothering to Complete the Main Quest
It seems the majority of those playing through The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered aren't finishing the game's main quest.
Such was the case for Reddit user Vaverka, who ended up inflicting a very powerful spell on themselves while playing Oblivion Remaster. According to their post on r/oblivion, this Paralyze spell lasted for 2,097,762,304 seconds, or 66 in-game years. As Vaverka points out, this is actually longer than the reign of Emperor Uriel Septim, who ruled Tamriel during many of the past Elder Scrolls games and whose death at the start of Oblivion Remastered kicks off the game’s main plot.
Oblivion Remastered Player Paralyzes Themselves for Six In-Game Decades
Some Oblivion Remastered players reading about Vaverka’s feat are in awe of this powerful (and self-inflicted) curse, and have asked what resources would be necessary to build the Magicka required to cast it. Others have joked that Vaverka’s character had heard the news of Uriel Septim’s death and decided to freeze themselves until the new Emperor is chosen or that they will still be a few years away from Grand Theft Auto 6 being released once the spell finally wears off.
So far, Oblivion Remastered has been met with much praise and high sales figures, largely due to how it reinvents the already beloved 2006 original with impressive new Unreal Engine 5 graphics. This is a testament to the classic Oblivion’s overall popularity, which it gained by putting players in an open fantasy world where almost anything is possible - even accidentally paralyzing themselves for the length of an Emperor’s rule and beyond.
