Summary
- Oblivion Remastered impresses with updated NPCs, praised for depth and unique features.
- Unreal Engine 5 enhances the stunning landscapes of Cyrodiil, elevating the visual experience.
- Despite some bugs, Oblivion Remastered retains core gameplay, drawing in old and new players.
Among its myriad of graphical improvements, Oblivion Remastered players can't help but praise Virtuos for imbuing the NPCs of Cyrodiil with new depth. The world of Tamriel has once again captured the hearts of Bethesda fans, as Oblivion Remastered continues to enjoy critical and commercial success. While it still features a decent number of bugs and technical issues, this hasn't stopped many players from enjoying their adventure in Cyrodiil and the Shivering Isles.
The gorgeous locations of Oblivion Remastered have been a highlight to explore, as Unreal Engine 5 elevated the landmarks and cities of Cyrodiil into the most stunning rendition of Tamriel yet. A key reason why the remake has been so successful is that it kept the original game underneath, improving on some of its shortcomings, but leaving the core gameplay untouched. However, given the infamy of Oblivion's character models, this was one area where Virtuos was allowed to make radical changes.
Oblivion Remastered: 7 Bugs You Need to Know About
Oblivion Remastered has patched many of the original game's bugs and glitches, but some remain present, which might cause some grief to players.
As pointed out by ImAGodHowCanYouKillA, the NPCs of Oblivion Remastered were given plenty of unique features. Martin Septim looks like the spitting image of a young Uriel, while Jauffre has imperfect teeth. This is because certain characters, no matter their importance, use special models – with notable examples being Captain Renault and Valen Dreth. Other NPCs were made via the game's character creator, but due to the graphical overhaul of Oblivion Remastered, even they exude a lot of character.
Oblivion Remastered Players Impressed By NPCs
The players were especially impressed with Owyn, the main quest giver for the Arena in Oblivion Remastered. Naturally, the Adoring Fan also came with a brand-new look – one that could even be described as unhinged. While races in The Elder Scrolls franchise have evolved throughout the years, it very much feels like Virtuos attempted to create a definitive version.
It remains to be seen if The Elder Scrolls 6 will draw inspiration from Oblivion Remastered. Given its popularity and the praise echoed throughout its community, it would arguably be a mistake for Bethesda not to use the positive feedback to deliver a worthy sequel to Skyrim. Ultimately, Oblivion Remastered has drawn a new audience to an old classic. It has reminded players of Bethesda's greatest strength, and, due to combat improvements, delivered a truly addictive loop of delving into spriggan caves, bandit fortresses, Ayleid ruins, and even the fiery planes of Oblivion. Assuming its modding community kicks off, there's a very good chance that The Elder Scrolls players will enjoy Oblivion Remastered for years to come.
