How to Start the Shrine of Clavicus Vile Quest in Oblivion Remastered

This shrine is part of the Blood of Daedra main quest in Oblivion Remastered.

Players can find the Shrine of Clavicus Vile towards the southwest of the Imperial City in Oblivion Remastered. Hope you have some disposable income, as talking to the statue requires making an offering of 500 gold coins. Clavicus will speak to the players and task them to retrieve the sword of Umbra, a weapon that contains her soul.

If you've played the original Oblivion, you'll know the iconic character and her legendary sword. You'll also know that she's a level 50 enemy and defeating her is no easy task. However, to complete the Shrine of Clavicus Vile quest, players will need to defeat her and retrieve her sword. The Daedric Lord will hint at the whereabouts of Umbra by telling players to start their search at Pell's Gate.

Defeating Umbra & Getting the Masque of Clavicus Vile

Instead of heading out to search for Umbra, players can go directly to her by traveling to the Vindasel Ayelid Ruins, just southeast of Clavicus Vile's Shrine. After entering the ruins, players will need to make their way through the hallways while eliminating rats and mudcrabs. There's a chamber with poisonous gas that you'll need to be wary of.

Once you reach Umbra's chambers, players can actually talk to her, but it'll lead to a boss fight pretty quickly. If you have high stats and gear, feel free to engage in a proper battle with Umbra. For players who are constantly getting defeated by her, they can perch up on one of the pillars and keep shooting her with arrows from afar.

Once Umbra is eliminated, take her sword back to the Shrine of Clavicus Vile, and he'll grant the Masque of Clavicus Vile to players in Oblivion Remastered. It's one of the weakest Daedric artifacts in the game, and it's a tough decision to exchange the sword of Umbra to get it. However, players can refuse to give the sword to Clavicus, and the Shrine of Clavicus Vile quest will still be marked as completed.
