A Brotherhood Betrayed is one of the main side quests that players can encounter when they visit the town of Bruma in The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered. The town is buzzing with rumors after local recluse Bradon Lirrian was murdered by a vampire hunter from out of town, but the guards and Bradon's wife task Oblivion Remastered players with discovering the truth behind this supposed vampire slaying.
This side quest has a few outcomes, and it also provides multiple opportunities for Oblivion Remastered players to put their skills to use when tracking down their target. Raynil Dralas is the supposed vampire hunter from out of town, but the circumstances surrounding Bradon Lirrian's death are incredibly suspicious. There's only a limited amount of time before Raynil Dralas gets away with everything, so players shouldn't wait to get to the bottom of things.
How to Start A Brotherhood Betrayed in Oblivion Remastered
This quest begins in the town of Bruma in the northern part of Cyrodiil. Most NPCs will talk about the death of Bradon Lirrian when asked about rumors, but the player can head directly to the Lirrian house at the southern edge of town to start the quest as well. According to the guards and Bradon's wife Erline, a Dunmer named Raynil Dranas killed Bradon because he was secretly a vampire. Corpses in the basement of the Lirrians' house with bite marks on their necks appear to confirm their suspicions, so it seems like an open and shut case at first glance.
Where to Find Reynil Dralas
The player is tasked with digging deeper into Bradon's murder, and the first step is tracking down Reynil Dralas. Nobody seems to know where he is, though, and he's a hard man to find. Asking the NPCs around town will eventually reveal that Reynil is staying at Olav's Tap and Tack, so that's the next place to look.
At the inn, Olav will tell the player more information about Reynil as long as his Disposition towards the player is high enough. The persuasion minigame should be enough to raise his Disposition, but a bribe will suffice if the player's Speechcraft skill is too low. Olav will hand players the key to Reynil's room for further investigation. To continue the quest, pick up Gelebourne's Journal hidden behind the dresser in Reynil's room.
Defeating Raynil Dralas
Gelebourne's Journal is the key to A Brotherhood Betrayed, containing the truth behind the murder of Bradon Lirrian. Reynil and Bradon were adventurers together, but Reynil killed Bradon and their other partner, Gelebourne, to secure their secret treasure for himself. To continue the quest, deliver the journal to the guards in Bradon's house.
Carius, the guard overseeing this murder case, will instruct the player to meet him at Olav's Tack and Tap in an hour. At the meeting, he'll send the player to Boreal Stone Cave to track down Reynil Dralas and bring him to justice. Players only have one in-game day to find him, otherwise he'll escape. Reynil refuses to go down without a fight at Boreal Stone Cave, so players must slay him to complete the quest.
Once Reynil is defeated, return to Bruma and speak to Bradon's wife, Erline, to complete the quest. She'll reveal the secret power of the coveted amulet. Instead of a Mundane Amulet, it's actually the Phylactery of Litheness. This amulet grants the Fortify Speed effect, allowing Oblivion Remastered players to travel the land more quickly.
