Summary

  • Players can freely explore and grow all skills in Oblivion Remastered, regardless of initial choices at character creation.
  • Alchemy allows for combat benefits, recovery, and profit through potion-making.
  • Alteration spells can bypass the Security skill, offering defensive spells and lock-picking options.

There are many skills to choose from in Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered and players can freely explore all of them. One of the worst things about Oblivion Remastered is that there is no way for players to respec in the base game. Luckily, there is no need to worry about it. Players are able to grow skills by exploring them and can grow all of their skills regardless of their chosen elements at Character Creation.

While this still means some skills level up slower, they are at least not locked out. This means players can explore some of the best skills they thought they didn’t want at first and change up their playstyle at any point in the game. Having certain skills available to a player will give them greater versatility and even help them hit higher levels sooner. Which is why dipping into some of these skills will pay off in big ways.

7 Alchemy

Great for Combat, Recovery, and Turning a Profit

Players that delve into the skill of Alchemy will find themselves exploring a vast array of effects that will affect many different aspects of the game. Players that are stricken with a debilitating disease that won’t go away on its own can whip up a remedy to remove it.

They can make vials of poisons to use against their foes and make fights a lot less challenging. They can even make potions purely to sell and then buy whatever they have been saving towards.

6 Security

Prevents Any Door from Barring Access to the Player

While there are plenty of doors that require a key to open, players will constantly run into the tumbler mini-game. Players that ignore security will find harder locks infuriating when they see all the tumblers drop back down.

The Akaviri Sunderblade is one of the most powerful weapons in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, and here's how to get it early on.

The better one is in Security, the fewer tumblers fall on a broken pick. This makes it worth picking every lock within a player's skill level to raise this skill whenever they get the chance. However, players should make a quick save beforehand — and reload if too many picks break.

Players can duplicate a large number of picks and then just spam the auto-unlock button.

5 Alteration

Bypass the Security Skill Entirely and More

Players that have chosen to go with a more magic-focused playstyle will want to pick up some Alteration spells to keep progressing down this school. This school will give them access to all sorts of defensive spells to protect them from elemental damage. The more points in a spell with Open, the better it is at picking locks.

This makes for a school of magic that is all about saying no to enemies being too hard, or for when players find a box with too many tumblers for their Security skill to effortlessly open. Players can even use it to breath underwater like an Argonian.

4 Sneak

More Extra Damage Than One Might Realize

Sneak lets players move around undetected. This can let them completely bypass a threat they are not ready to deal with yet, or even systematically take down every enemy one at a time. Some players might think the bonus damage from sneak-attacking enemies is not worth it if they cannot one-shot their foe.

However, players that get right up behind their targets will get to make several other attacks after this initial sneak attack before their enemies even unsheathe their weapon. This can trivialize a lot of encounters.

3 Marksman

Amazing Choice for Fighting at Any Distance

Marksman increases the damage for players using a bow and arrow playstyle. However, players can keep damaging enemies while walking backwards, and then turn to sprint. This lets them turn back to their target while fighting at mid-range if they prefer to be more daring.

Players can even keep shooting enemies at point-blank range while they take hits themselves. This will even let players get some points from their currently equipped armor to level up even faster.

Marksman can also let players use various poisons on their arrows, or have enchanted bows to fire all manner of elemental damage.

2 Restoration

Nothing Short of Immortality When Used by a Battlemage

Players can have one spell at the ready while they have access to their weapon of choice. This means players can alternate between dealing damage with their weapon and then using all their stored magicka to heal up while running around the area or from behind a shield.

Sometimes players will see their health plummeting at an alarming rate because of some lingering effect. Luckily, they can use their quick select wheel to switch to the required Restoration spell to cure this ailment and then back to their strongest healing spell to top their red gauge back up.

1 Conjuration

Conjuration Helps Players Explore Every Skill

Like with all other magic skills in the game, players will grow the skill from the school of magic the skill is a part of. However, when they conjure a bound weapon, it will give them points for the skill associated with that weapon instead of the Conjuration skill. Bound Daggers give points to the Blade skill, and Bound Bow will give points to the Marksman skill.

Players that find an amazing weapon they want to use can then use that weapon and cast a summoning spell to keep raising their Conjuration for even stronger weapons later. They can even conjure armor and shields. Players will also be raising attributes such as Intelligence, making it synergize with learning other schools of magic.
