There is a wide range of skills in The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered. This includes a handful of ones dedicated to the game's numerous schools of magic. This includes Destruction, Restoration, Conjuration, Alteration, Illusion, and Mysticism. Each of these schools provides players with a handful of different effects to aid them throughout the game.
While Destruction is the go-to school for attack spells and Alteration is aimed at protection, Mysticism is more of a utility spell school. It can let players know where their enemies are, show a guiding light to their next objective marker, and can even trap the souls of fallen foes in Soul Gems.
7 Minor Dispel
Cleanse Magical Afflictions with the Wave of a Hand
- Obtained from Alves Uvenim at the Leyawiin Mages Guild.
Players will encounter a multitude of spell casters looking to be their enemies. These foes will come with a wide range of spells from many different schools. A single enemy can start by using Conjuration to summon something, attack the player with Destruction spells, and then use Restoration on themselves to reverse any damage the player has done to them.
However, there are also times when the player will have a magical affliction plague them from one of these enemies. The moment this happens, players can pop a spell with the Dispel effect to remove these burdens. However, players can also hold down the cast button with this spell to rapidly gain levels in their Mysticism skill. This spell will level them 22 times faster than if they tried spamming Clairvoyance. This makes it the best novice-level Mysticism spell to spam.
While there are Dispel spells at higher levels, players may not be able to spare the Magicka. It is best to use potions instead at higher levels.
6 Soul Trap
Recharging Soul Gems for Early Enchanted Items
- Obtained from Alves Uvenim at the Leyawiin Mages Guild.
Players will find many Soul Gems in the game, with those progressing through the Mages Guild questline finding an abundance of them. Players will not need Soul Gems or greater and grand value early on and can leave them untouched until they do. As for the petty Soul Gems, players can use the Soul Trap spell to charge them up.
Once charged, they can be used to recharge players' enchanted weapons that have been depleted. Players will come across a handful of useful enchanted items early on, and being able to keep them topped up means performing at optimal efficiency.
This is a touch range spell. So players will need to close the gap and use it before finishing off their target.
5 Clairvoyance
Never Get Turned Around Ever Again
- All players start with this spell.
Players may not know exactly how to get around something so that they are on the right path. They might find the marker is pointing them to a door that is perpetually red, with an NPC on the other side that will get annoyed with them for entering. Any player can use the Clairvoyance spell to help show them the correct path they should be taking.
Players can also change their quest to one with a specific marker while they are inside a dungeon so the spell shows them the fastest way out. This can save players time if they find themselves going in circles.
Umaril the Unfeathered Quest Walkthrough in Oblivion Remastered
Umaril the Unfeathered is the final quest in the Knights of the Nine DLC in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered. Here's how to complete it.
4 Major Life Detection
Know Where Enemies are Before Even Getting in Range of Their Sight
- Obtained from Alves Uvenim at the Leyawiin Mages Guild.
A lot of players enjoy making use of the first-person perspective offered in the game. However, these players may peer around a corner just to be seen by a nearby enemy. This spell can highlight any enemy within a tunnel before making a corner and reveal enemies that may see players coming through said tunnel.
Minor Detect Life only has a 10-second duration, while Greater has a 60-second duration. Major sits at a comfortable 20 seconds. 10 seconds can feel far too short, while the Greater variant costs a lot more for no additional range. Major sits comfortably at affordable and functional.
3 Superior Soul Trap
Filling Up More Demanding Soul Gems
- Obtained from Aurelinwae at the Mystic Emporium.
Superior Soul Trap is substantially more costly than its lower-level counterparts. However, this variant can be used against enemies up to 10 ft away and gives players plenty of time to finish them off while always maintaining their distance.
This is great for players that need to fill up some of their heftier Soul Gems with the souls of mighty enemies they will encounter later on. These enemies can deal a lot of damage up close, making this a perfect way to tag them for soul capture before finishing them off.
Sorcerers are a type of mage class that has Heavy Armor as a Major Skill. This class can use the far cheaper Soul Trap as they will usually be within melee striking distance of their foes.
2 Superior Spell Absorption
Mitigate Magical Damage in Its Entirety
- Obtained from Gaspar Stegine at the Arcane University’s Praxographical Center.
Players will be able to get ahold of many different Alteration spells. Alteration spells provide players with many options to defend against various damage types. However, instead of raising one’s resistance to fire, shock, or frost, they can use Spell Absorption to completely mitigate the damage and convert it into their own Magicka.
How to get Spectre Ring in Oblivion Remastered
Looking for the Spectre Ring in Oblivion Remastered? Here's where to find it and how to get one of the most broken Enchanted Items in the game.
This lets players defend against magic attacks while it also replenishes their own reserves to keep using spells against their targets.
1 Superior Spell Reflection
Much Faster Results Compared to Spell Absorption
- Obtained from Raminus Polus at the Arcane University.
The Reflect Spell effect is the key element of spells with the Spell Reflection name. This spell will send any spells cast on the user back at the caster as if the user were the one casting it. This lets players shower damage on a target to vanquish it in a shorter amount of time than if they had absorbed the magicka.
Both these effects mitigate the user receiving damage, but players can use a Potion of Sorcery while being hit to both get a Magicka top-up and have their foe take damage.
Both of the previously mentioned spells have Legendary counterparts. However, these only provide 5 more points of potency and 5 more seconds to their duration. This does not justify the rise in cost to cast them at this level. The Superior variants will allow players to put the saved Magicka into getting more damage in against their foes.
