Summary
- Toyotaro believes continuing Dragon Ball Super without Toriyama is possible if he wrote the story.
- Toyotaro's comments suggest a potential continuation of the series, providing hope for fans.
- There is anticipation for news from the Dragon Ball Super panel, indicating the series may not be cancelled.
In France, Toyotaro has finally spoken out about the potential return of Dragon Ball Super. Since March 2024, fans have been waiting for the story to enter a new arc. Following the announcement of Akira Toriyama's passing last year, Dragon Ball Super went on an indefinite hiatus. While this was sad news, most fans understood that Toyotaro needed a break.
When a new chapter came out in February 2025, most expected the series to return to its regular serialization. The new chapter was a bonus story from the Super Hero Saga, which ended in the previous chapter. Unfortunately, the manga went on another indefinite hiatus, leading fans to worry if it will ever return.
Toyotaro Thinks It's Possible to Continue the Story
Toyotaro is currently in France to attend a Dragon Ball Super panel at Paris Japan Expo 2025. According to the French account DBTimes, he stated that "it's not impossible" to continue Dragon Ball Super, as he was the one writing it. He would send his drafts to Toriyama, who approved or adjusted them (translation by Venixys):
Toyotaro said that it's not impossible to continue without Toriyama-sensei, because it was he (Toyotaro) who wrote the story of Dragon Ball Super and then sent it to Toriyama, who would approve or not. On other occasions, Toriyama would send his stories to Toyotaro so he could take a look and make suggestions. Then Toriyama would approve them again or not. Since part of the story came from him, Toyotaro believes that continuing without Toriyama-sensei would be “not easy, but not impossible.”

While this is not a confirmation that the series will return anytime soon, it is a great sign for fans waiting for the series to continue. The manga has been mostly a joint effort, but it seems that Toyotaro feels confident he can continue writing it. With his comment in mind, it's understandable that he might still be struggling to continue the story without Toriyama's support.
Can We Expect News About Dragon Ball Super?
It is worth mentioning that this comment did not come from the panel, which will be held on July 6. This means that DBTimes either took part in a press conference or was lucky enough to find Toyotaro at the event. In any case, there is still the possibility that Toyotaro will make an announcement about continuing the story at the panel on Sunday, although he might not give a date if there isn't anything more solid or if he isn't yet allowed to do so.
V-JUMP magazine is still heavily relying on promoting Dragon Ball Super as one of its flagship titles, so it seems unlikely that the story has been canceled. Of course, it also depends on Toyotaro feeling confident enough to write the upcoming arcs. Either way, this seems like good news for those looking forward to the Black Frieza Arc, so fans should keep an eye for updates on the series' serialization.
Dragon Ball Super is available to read on MANGA Plus in English and Spanish.
