No Rest for the Wicked is one of those games that will not hold anyone's hand (outside the tutorial, of course). There are quests with markers that point people the right way, but not even those are enough to completely prevent players from getting confused about where to go and what to do. In this No Rest for the Wicked guide, we'll show you a list of priorities that you should focus on after you get shipwrecked.

No Rest For The Wicked: How to Respec

Wondering how you can change your entire build in No Rest For The Wicked? Here's how you can respec your character.

Gear Up and Gather Materials

After the tutorial, you'll find yourself alone on a beach with nothing but the tattered rags on your back. The first thing you'll absolutely want to do is get some gear while avoiding combat. You can get a few random pieces of equipment by finding a small hideout north of the starting point.

From where you wake up, head northeast until you reach the big, green puddle of sewer water. Turn right, and you'll find a path that curves northward. There's a broken sewer grate there that leads to a hideout containing some Artemisia Herbs and a chest full of random loot. If you're lucky, you should get an armor piece and a weapon here along with other goods.

If you find tools (i.e. Axe, Shovel, Fishing Rod, Pickaxe), use them to gather literally every resource you come across, and gather every single cooking ingredient (i.e. Artemisia Herbs, Crabs, etc) too. You'll need all of them later.

Reach Sacrament

Sacrament is the hub area in No Rest for the Wicked, and it'll serve as your main base of operations. However, before you can reach it, you'll have to fight your way through a bandit-infested keep and a freaky monster boss in front of the town's gate.

The boss in question here is Warrick the Torn, and as big and scary as he seems, he's fairly easy to beat. When he starts his long combos, do your best to avoid his attacks, then pummel him when he tires himself out. Repeat until he croaks, then enter the town from the nearby bridge.

The Path Diverges

Assuming you've finished resting at the Rookery after the previous boss fight, new paths in the world will open up. From here, you have the following choices:

  • Complete Building Projects by supplying materials and resources to Maker Danos
    • This will let you upgrade merchants and unlock shortcuts around Sacrament
  • Continue the main questline by doing the Servant of God quest to the east of town
    • Head to the top-most section of Sacrament and look for the path to the Nameless Pass
  • Unlock the Crucible
    • Go to the mason's house in the cemetary in the bottom-north section of Sacrament

Complete Building Projects

Ideally, you should always aim to complete Building Projects while you're doing something else in No Rest for the Wicked. Much of your progression relies on this mechanic, so always make an effort to gather materials while questing or exploring. We recommend prioritizing the following projects:

  1. Filmore's Smithy
  2. Eleanor's Enchantment Shop
  3. Whittacker's Crafting Shack
  4. Grinnich's General Goods
  5. Gordon's Pantry
  6. Ilaria's Sanctum (prioritize this if you want to get unarmed/fist weapon builds)
  7. Mira and Meri's Tailor Shop
  8. Danos' Architecture Study
  9. Caroline's Inn

By upgrading Filmore's Smithy and Eleanor's Enchantment Shops first, you'll get quicker access to better weapons and Runes. Meanwhile, Whittacker's Crafting Shack will sell you better furniture for your home, including storage chests and other useful facilities. Grinnich's General Goods is also a high-priority upgrade since he will often sell you a variety of Rings and resources.

Gordon's Pantry will sell you advanced crafting recipes, and it'll also give you access to a Stove, which is used for cooking better meals. We recommend leveling this up once you're done or are halfway through the Servant of God quest.

As for the rest, it's up to you. Ilaria's Sanctum sells Runes and equipment based on unarmed combat, so you should only upgrade that project if you want to make an unarmed build. Mira and Meri's Tailor Shop sells armor, but you can get plenty of armor for free by doing bounties for Captain Randolph.

What to Do After Servant of God in No Rest for the Wicked

When you finish the Servant of God quest, head to the main plaza of Sacrament; it's the big area right in front of Danos. A cutscene should play here, and once that's done, pet the nearby dog with the question mark over its head. It'll lead you to the start of the next story quest.

If the cutscene doesn't play, make sure to finish Of Rats and Raiders first. The first part of it is easy enough, but the second half will send you to the Black Trench, which is a level 15 area. If you're already done with Servant of God, you should have no trouble finishing Of Rats and Raiders.

Farming XP and Equipment

Now, if you feel like you're not strong enough for Nameless Pass or the Crucible, you can farm for XP and gear by completing bounties for Captain Randolph, who you can find near the Whisper at Sacrament. He'll have a list of Daily and Weekly Bounties as well as some Challenges for you to complete. Each will reward you with equipment, and if none of them have any items that are good for your build, you can always sell them for money.

If you're all out of bounties to do, don't forget that enemies, materials, and chests respawn every in-game hour. You'll know if the world has reset if the fog of war on your map has returned to previously-explored areas.

Open as many chests as you can for a chance to find gems for Infusions. If you get a Diamond, slot them into your armor pieces for bonus XP gains.

Get & Use Plague Ichors

Plague Ichor is a type of upgrade material that you can give to the Watcher at the Rookery. You can use them to upgrade your inventory, unlock equipment slots, and increase your Hunger count, which is essentially the limit on how many healing items you can use while in combat.

You can get Plague Ichors by completing Weekly Bounties from Captain Randolph. Beating any of the game's major bosses should also give you a Plague Ichor once you beat them.
