How to Find Abyssal Horror in No Man's Sky

Abyssal Horrors spawn underwater on almost any planet, regardless of its type. They look like giant stationary worms with an eye in the middle and can spawn on their own or alongside sunken buildings.

Head to the nearest planet with a lot of water (usually, those are lush and tropical planets). The best way is for you to fly to an area with an ocean. There are always a few small islands you can land on and start looking for the Abyssal Horror. You can spot the Abyssal Horror using the Analysis Visor, as it'll have the red danger icon above it.

Even though the Abyssal Horrors can appear anywhere, finding and dealing with them can be a pain. Here are a few tips to make your search easier:

  • Install Underwater Oxygen Upgrades: Underwater Oxygen Upgrades for your Exosuit significantly increase how long you can stay underwater. Since you may have to swim longer distances to reach the Abyssal Horror and back, install at least one S-Class Underwater Oxygen Upgrade.
  • Look for the yellow glow in the night: If you're flying over the water during the night, you can spot the Abyssal Horror by its glowing yellow eye.
  • Install Aqua-Jets Upgrade on your starship: The Aqua-Jets allow you to land the starship on an aquatic surface. With them, you don't have to look for a landing spot when you find an Abyssal Horror.
  • Use the Nautilon: Nautilon is an underwater Exocraft that you can use to calmly explore the depths. You can also install a High-Power Sonar on the Exocraft to spot points of interest.

The Abyssal Horror is peaceful until you get very close to it. Once you're close, it widely opens the eye and starts attacking you. This is when you should use your Boltcaster to shoot it in the eye to kill it. Upon death, the Abyssal Horror drops a Hypnotic Eye that you can pick up.

Abyssal Horror only takes damage when you shoot it in the eye.
