Crafting and upgrading are a large part of No Man's Sky, and one of the many resources is Dioxite (CO2). It can be used to build Thermic Layers or Thermal Buffers, or simpler resources such as Grantine and Frost Crystals. It can occasionally be used to charge certain gear, too. This guide will show players where to find Dioxite in No Man's Sky, and how to produce it out of other materials.

How To Get Dioxite In No Man's Sky
There are a number of ways to get hold of Dioxite, including mining it, purchasing it, and refining elements to make it.
Finding Dioxite Deposits
To find Dioxite in its pure form, players will need to find a Dioxite Deposit. The first step of this is to locate cold or frozen planets. To scan, press C in your ship while flying toward a planet. If the planet contains Dioxite Deposits, it will be listed here. You might have to jump to another solar system to find a suitable planet.
Once on the planet, use your Analysis Visor (F) to scan for deposits.
If you have a Corvette-class ship in No Man's Sky, you can get out of the driver's seat and scan from your ship without needing to land.
After finding a deposit, cycle through your Multi-Tool with G to bring up the Terrain Manipulator. You can then mine the Dioxite Deposit. By scanning common minerals with the Analysis Visor, they will sometimes reveal that they contain small amounts of Dioxite too.
Refining Dioxite
Using a Refiner that has room for at least two input ingredients and Carbon for fuel, players can produce Dioxite by refining other resources. Most of these recipes only produce 1 Dioxite, but one has a higher yield if Condensed Carbon is used.
|
Input |
Dioxite Output |
|---|---|
|
1 Condensed Carbon + 1 Sodium Nitrate |

2 Frost Crystal + 1 Salt |

There are other refiners, such as the Personal Refiner, which allows refining on the go. Dioxite itself can also be refined to make new resources, such as Frost Crystals and Grantine.

Here's how to get the Gravitino Coil module for the Multi-Tool in No Man's Sky, which is essentially a gravity gun.
Dioxite Can Be Bought From Galactic Trade Terminals
Galactic Trade Terminals can be found at Space Stations. Sometimes, they may sell Dioxite for Units. These trade terminals are found on the lower level of the Space Station, beneath the level where all the upgrades can be purchased. It is opposite the large teleporter.
- Dioxite's base value is 84 Units.
If you can't find it at a Space Station, try another solar system. You can also try trading with random ship captains who pull into Space Stations or land on planets, but they might not have Dioxite either.
A final way to get Dioxite is to dismantle a Thermal Protection Upgrade (Cold), which will give x50 Dioxite and a Wiring Loom. Dioxite is used to produce and charge this upgrade.
