Fishing in No Man's Sky is now possible thanks to the Aquarius update. Along with a complete Expedition and lots of content in the form of cooking recipes, fish traps, and a new suit for you to wear, among other things, players can now visit several different planet biomes in the hopes of completing their collection of over 160 fish varieties.

While standing on the shoreline and expecting fish to take a bite of your bait, the Exo-Skiff will make things a lot more interesting by allowing you to fish in the middle of the ocean. That is why if you intend to get the rarest and largest fish in the universe of No Man's Sky, then getting the Exo-Skiff will be vital. Today's guide will explain how to get the Exo-Skiff and how to use it properly.

How to Get the Exo-Skiff in No Man's Sky

No Man's Sky Exo-Skiff Plans

There are two ways you can get the Exo-Skiff in No Man's Sky. The easiest way, provided you have enough Nanites, is to travel to the Space Anomaly with your character and speak with the Multi-tool Vendor. The Exo-Skiff plans will set you back a total of 90 Nanites, so you better explore caches, defeat Sentinels, and complete missions – among many other things – to get them.

That said, if you want to take part in the Aquarius Expedition, you will need to complete the Freedom of the Sea milestone in Phase 2. This milestone, in particular, is really simple to complete as you will only have to free one of the many fish you catch during your water adventures and let it swim once again in the oceans of No Man's Sky. You will receive the plans for the Exo-Skiff and, in either case, you will need to use the following materials to build it:

  • 120x Magnetised Ferrite: Use a Refiner to convert 2x Pure Ferrite into Magnetised Ferrite.
  • 30x Salt: Found as a secondary material in minerals, as a primary material in underwater minerals, or found in Resource Deposits. You can also use the Refiner to make Salt:
    • 1x Chlorine.
    • 1x Di-hydrogen + 1x Oxygen.
  • 2x Crystal Sulphide: Found next to underwater vents in oceans and lakes.

How to Use and Move the Exo-Skiff in No Man's Sky

No Man's Sky Exo-Skiff

The very first thing you need to know is that you must equip the Exo-Skiff in your Exo-Suit and that it is summonable, just like every other vehicle, but in water. Pick the best spot for your Exo-Skiff to deploy (preferably from on top of your starship) and then the Exo-Skiff will appear. Hop on, and you will be able to fish on top of it with your favorite fishing rod – like the Lost Angler's Rig – in the open sea and use the Cold Storage to store the catch of the day.

That said, one of the things that may not be very intuitive is how to move the Exo-Skiff in No Man's Sky once you are standing on it, since interacting with the screens will only let you alter the color of your Exo-Skiff. So, instead, bring up your Summon Vehicle options, select the Exo Skiff once again, and select any spot on the sea. The Exo-Skiff will then start moving toward said spot, albeit slowly. There is no way to manually control the Exo-Skiff at the moment.
