Nintendo Switch players already have lots to look forward to from Nintendo this year. Some of the exclusive games coming to the console in 2019 include a new entry in the Animal Crossing series and a Pokemon RPG. Though Nintendo has now confirmed that these hotly anticipated titles aren't the only exciting things it has up its sleeves.

One of the biggest reveals from Nintendo's latest financial briefing is that it is working on a big, new Switch game that will be released sometime during the 2019 fiscal year. FY19 begins on April 1 and ends on March 31 2020 and Nintendo didn't offer up any more specific clues about the game's release window (e.g. Holiday 2019). What the Nintendo Switch platform holder did reveal, however, is that this upcoming game is something that "fans would be delighted to know," with this lone sentence leading to wild speculation.

If it's something that fans would be delighted to hear about, then the title must be a game for an existing franchise and not a brand new IP. It also stands to reason that the game isn't related to a series that already has a game coming out this year, which rules out spin-offs of Pokemon, Animal Crossing, Fire Emblem or Yoshi (separate from the wider Mario universe).

One popular suggestion is that Nintendo is finally going to announce the Metroid Prime HD Trilogy, which has reportedly completed development. The trilogy was apparently set for an announcement during The Game Awards in December 2018 but this didn't come to fruition, possibly because of the development reboot of Metroid Prime 4. With so many rumors surrounding the trilogy, it would delight Metroid fans if it was officially announced.

Some fans are also hopeful that Nintendo will release a game focused on Waluigi. Fans of the moustachioed character were eager for him to be added as a playable fighter in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and when that didn't happen, they modded him in instead. Fans' love of Waluigi and Nintendo's reluctance to give the character his chance to shine in the spotlight would mean that a proper Waluigi game would delight fans too.

Other, more outlandish suggestions are that Nintendo will release The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 or a sequel to Super Mario Odyssey. Both games have been huge system sellers for Nintendo and they were among the top 10 best-selling Switch exclusives. The original games took considerable effort to make though, making it somewhat unlikely that follow-ups will be released any time soon.
