As reported by Reddit user Cube_play_8 (and spotted by Nintendo Life), users can no longer capture promotional videos in the Nintendo Today app, as attempting to do so will result in a recording of a black screen. This has been tested on a variety of phone types, with all showing the same result. Many fans have been archiving the content posted on the app, as Nintendo has been using it to consistently provide information about the games coming to the Switch 2. While some have resorted to filming their phone's screen as a last resort, Nintendo's decision is frustrating those hoping to preserve content from this period of gaming history.

The Nintendo Today App Now Prevents Users From Capturing Video

This isn't the only Nintendo announcement to disappoint fans recently. Earlier this month, it was confirmed that Nintendo Switch 2 gameplay clips would be limited to 30 seconds for those without a capture card, the same time restriction found on the original Switch. The company has also revealed that those wanting to utilize the Switch 2's GameChat feature will need to register a phone number, largely for security purposes.

According to the well-known industry insider Pedro Henrique Lutti Lippe, the next Nintendo Direct is on the horizon, with the Brazilian journalist predicting that the company's next stream may occur in late May or early June. Nintendo has held a June Direct every year since 2011, and given the impending release of the Switch 2, many are expecting more game reveals and information to be shared around the console's June 5 launch.
