At its launch in 2006, the Nintendo Wii quickly became a massive success by appealing to both fans of video games and those who may have been less familiar with that particular scene. The major draw of the system was its motion control capability, highlighted by the pack in title called Wii Sports. A collection of five sports intended to demonstrate the Wii's motion-sensing capabilities, the game's accessibility was a major reason as to why it garnered a huge fanbase and became a focal point for social gatherings.

Its popularity would lead to multiple spinoffs and sequels such as Wii Sports Resort, Wii Sports Club on the WiiU, and the just released, Nintendo Switch Sports. The latest title sees players participate in six different sports in a facility known as Spocco Square. Tennis, Bowling, and Chambara return from previous games, while Soccer, Volleyball, and Badminton are brand new. Nintendo is also planning on bringing back Golf in an update later in 2022.

How To Unlock New Cosmetic Outfits

In order to unlock these new outfits and other cosmetic style items, Nintendo Switch Sports players will need to head online and select the Play Globally mode. Surprisingly, Switch owners are not required to be subscribed to Nintendo Switch Online in order to access this mode, but it's worth noting that only bot characters will be matched up.

Players will need to accumulate points in order to unlock new cosmetics. Thankfully, this process is fairly easy as players will earn points regardless of how well they do in a various sport. Here is the complete breakdown.

For every match played, players will earn 30-40 points by default. However, the end of a match can also add multipliers based around how well the person plays as well as various achievements made during the match including getting strikes during bowling. When added up at the end of a match, Nintendo Switch Sports players can easily go over 100 points for playing well.

For most, bowling seems to be the best and fastest way to accumulate points compared to the other 5 available sports. Matches award 40 points though Bowling multipliers seem to be easier to earn, giving most players plenty of points at the end of a match, especially for those that can make it to the third and final round.

Using Points to Unlock Cosmetics

When players reach 100 points, they're rewarded with a random cosmetic item, though players can narrow the reward down a bit by selecting the set they want an item from. Nintendo is constantly adding new cosmetic content, even introducing special, limited time collections to obtain, so players will likely never run out of options for quite some time.

With new cosmetics unlocked, players can head to the customization menu from the bottom right corner at the Spocco Square menu screen. Players should look for the clothes hanger icon. Any unlocked content will appear here and players can tweak their Sportsmates character for a more custom look.

Nintendo Switch Sports is available now exclusively for Nintendo Switch.
