Nintendo has updated the Nintendo Switch Online subscription service to include three new Super Nintendo games. Nintendo Switch Online is Nintendo's PS Plus/Xbox Game Pass equivalent. With a Switch Online subscription, fans can play Switch multiplayer online, plus they can enjoy a healthy selection of titles from classic consoles.
A base Nintendo Switch Online subscription is $19.99 per year and gives subscribers access to games from the NES, SNES, Game Boy, and Game Boy Color. Quite a few Super Nintendo games have been added to the Switch Online subscription service since 2019, with more added on a regular basis.
Nintendo Switch Online Added More Games in 2024 Than Any Previous Year
Recent data shows that 2024 was the busiest year for the Nintendo Switch Online subscription service, having the most titles of any year.
The latest Nintendo Switch Online update has added a trio of Super Nintendo titles to the mix. Nintendo Switch Online subscribers can now play fighting game Fatal Fury 2, co-op action-RPG Super Ninja Boy, and puzzle game Sutte Hakkun. Out of these new Switch Online SNES games, Fatal Fury 2 is certainly the headlining new addition, but Super Ninja Boy is a unique experience that combines RPG mechanics with action platformer mechanics, and Sutte Hakkun is a well-regarded puzzler that was originally only released in Japan. Like with other Switch Online games, no expiration dates have been announced for these titles, so subscribers can play them whenever they like.
Not only that, but Switch Online subscribers can enjoy a variety of helpful features when playing these classic SNES games. Switch Online has helpful quality of life tools that allow players to save whenever they'd like and even rewind games. These features have made playing classic titles far less frustrating, in turn making the games much more accessible.

It's thanks to Switch Online that the Nintendo Switch 2 is going to instantly have a huge library of retro games for players to check out. Nintendo has made it clear that Nintendo accounts are going to transfer to the Switch 2, which almost certainly means all the Switch Online games will be available at launch as well. This means that Switch 2 gamers will be able to play these latest Super Nintendo additions on day one, plus all the other titles that have been added to the service over the years.
There are some anticipating upgrades to Switch Online, with rumors persisting for years that GameCube games might get added to the mix or that some of the older Pokemon titles could eventually make their debuts. Plans to that effect have not been announced, but one has to imagine that Nintendo has big plans for Switch Online as it moves into the Switch 2 era.
