Nintendo has confirmed that the NES version of Tetris is coming to the Nintendo Switch Online subscription service this winter. But with most of the biggest NES games already available on Switch Online, it makes sense that the company has largely focused on other platforms in recent years. This winter, Nintendo Switch Online subscribers can expect at least one more NES title to hit the service.

Nintendo Switch Online subscribers who can't wait to play Tetris should note that a version of the game is already available on the service. The classic Game Boy version of Tetris, a launch title for Nintendo's beloved handheld and the game that really helped the popular puzzler reach new heights, has been available through Switch Online since February of 2023. Pokemon Puzzle League is also available to Switch Online Expansion Pack subscribers, providing a Pokemon-themed twist on the Tetris Attack spin-off concept. It may not be the same as playing regular Tetris, but could still scratch a similar itch.

Besides confirming that the NES version of Tetris is coming to Switch Online this winter, it was also announced during the Nintendo Direct that Tetris 99 will be getting another Maximus Cup event. The new Tetris 99 Maximus Cup event will also be taking place this winter, and it will be taking place to help celebrate the original game's 40th anniversary. For those unfamiliar with the game, Tetris 99 is a battle royale spin on the Tetris formula that is available for free to Nintendo Switch Online subscribers. Just as fans can expect to learn the specific date the NES Tetris is making its NSO debut in the months ahead, more info on Tetris 99's anniversary Maximus Cup should be revealed within the same timeframe as well.
