Nintendo recently released a hotfix for the Switch after the recent Version 20.0.0 update caused crashes for some gamers. The newest Switch update was eagerly awaited by the community, so it was disappointing for many that it rolled out with severe issues, though Nintendo has been fairly quick in addressing the problem.

Released earlier this week, the Version 20.0.0 update for the Nintendo Switch marked a significant change for the console, as it introduced the GameShare function. While GameShare can only be hosted on the Switch 2, this new feature allows owners of the original Switch to play supported titles without owning a copy. However, the update also introduced unintended glitches, and multiple gamers reported that they were unable to start their consoles, as their Switch was crashing and presenting them with Error Code: 2206-1015.

Now, Nintendo has unveiled a new hotfix update that solves this issue. The hotfix is already available, and gamers who are unable to start their Switch can update it via Maintenance Mode. To do it, they need to power off the console, then hold down the volume up (+) and volume down (-) buttons while pressing the Power button. This will start the mode, and all gamers need to do is select System Update and follow the instructions to get rid of the recent issues affecting the Switch after the Version 20.0.0 update. If the console uses a Parental Control PIN, however, gamers will need to enter it or reset it to access this function.

How to Apply the Hotfix for Switch Version 20.0.0

Ensure the console is powered off.
With the console powered off, hold down the volume up (+) and volume down (-) buttons, then press the POWER Button to turn the system on.
Once in Maintenance Mode, select Update System and follow the prompts to complete this process.
If a Parental Control PIN has been set for the system, you will be prompted to enter it. If you have forgotten the PIN number, it will need to be reset.

Apart from the new GameShare functionality, the new update also brings a few new interesting features to the table. One of them is Nintendo’s Virtual Game Card feature, which allows players to quickly transfer a single game to other devices using wireless communication. This will be useful for transferring games to the Nintendo Switch 2, or even lending them to family members, as users will be able to lend their Virtual Game Cards to up to eight people in the same shared family plan.

Unfortunately, this was not a very happy week for all Nintendo fans. Aside from these issues with the recent update, Nintendo also revealed that the release of the Switch 2 will be delayed in multiple countries. According to Nintendo, countries in Central America and the Caribbean will not see the console launch happening anytime soon, as sales are not expected to begin before 2026. The reason for that is that the region lacks services such as the Nintendo eShop, and was deemed “too small” for Nintendo to allocate the resources to release the console there initially, given current market conditions.
