A leaker has suggested that the Nintendo Switch Online subscription service may get some new features soon, including achievements and rewards based on games played. Switch fans have been asking Nintendo to add this feature for a long time, and this could be a game-changer for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers if these rumors prove to be correct.
Nintendo Switch Online is a subscription service started in 2018, which provides gamers with access to cloud saves, online multiplayer, and some unique features. One of the most noteworthy perks of the service is the ability to play some titles from classic platforms, such as the NES, Super NES, and Game Boy. With a subscription to the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack, gamers also gain access to select N64, Sega Genesis, Game Boy Advance, and – if they own a Switch 2 – GameCube titles.
After Virtual Boy, Nintendo Switch 2 is Starting to Feel Like the Wii Generation All Over Again
Nintendo recently announced a new Virtual Boy, making the Nintendo Switch 2 feel like a blast from the past in more ways than one.
New Rumor Indicates Missions, Rewards, and Achievements Coming to Nintendo Switch Online
The new rumor started by the Spanish leaker Nash Weedle has recently hinted that a new system could be added to Nintendo Switch Online. According to him, this new feature would function like an Achievements system and would give players points based on the titles that they play. These points would be redeemable for rewards and would be unlocked by completing in-game achievements, such as defeating a boss without taking damage, for example, which could even give unique rewards. Weedle also hinted that these achievements would be visible to other players, that favorite rewards could be auto-redeemed with enough points, or traded under certain conditions. As expected, the entire system would require a Nintendo Switch Online membership.
Obviously, gamers have to take these rumors with a grain of salt. Nash Weedle is a well-known leaker, but this is far from official information. In any case, Nintendo Switch Online offers frequent updates, and Weedle believes that these changes “won’t take long to arrive.”
Until then, gamers can enjoy the current features offered by the service. Earlier this month, for example, Nintendo Switch Online added support for remapping controls in GBA games, something that fans had been asking for a while. The update followed the ability to remap Super NES controls, which was introduced in late August.
During the recent Nintendo Direct, Nintendo also revealed that the subscription service would get access to Virtual Boy titles starting on February 17, 2026. Last week, the prices of official Virtual Boy Switch accessories were revealed, with the entire device costing $100 via the Nintendo shop, and a smaller cardboard Virtual Boy headset for $25.
