Police reports stated that a truck containing nearly 3,000 Nintendo Switch 2 consoles had its cargo stolen, valued at approximately $1.4 million. The theft of the Switch 2 consoles took place in Colorado, as the truck was transporting stock between Nintendo of America's headquarters in Washington to a GameStop store in Texas.

Following its June 5 launch, sales of Nintendo's new console set new records for the company. Over 3.5 million Switch 2 consoles were sold globally within the first four days, making it the fastest-selling game console in history. With updated hardware that can improve the performance of original Switch titles out of the box, and new features like GameChat and GameShare, the Switch 2 is one of the hottest commodities of the year. To combat both consumer demand and scalpers, Nintendo and its retail partners continue to work on keeping stocks of the Switch 2 base console and Mario Kart World bundle as high as possible.

However, Nintendo's top-selling console has quickly become a target for thieves looking to capitalize on consumer demand. According to reports from Denver ABC affiliate KMGH-TV (and corroborated by IGN), a truck carrying nearly 3,000 Switch 2 consoles from Nintendo of America's headquarters in Redmond, Washington, to a GameStop store in Grapevine, Texas, had its cargo stolen somewhere along the way. The Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office stated on June 17 that the theft was discovered after the truck was parked at a Love's Truck Stop in Bennett, Colorado. The driver said that he noticed during an inspection that someone had broken into the trailer and made off with several pallets of Switch 2 consoles, though he clarified he was unaware of what he was transporting until the theft was reported. The estimated value of the stolen Switch 2 consoles is approximately $1.4 million.

As the system continues to sell out in markets around the world, it remains to be seen when more players will be able to snag one of the consoles for themselves.
