Early on May 7, a wave of Nintendo Switch 2 console pre-orders went live via the My Nintendo Store in the UK, but the new allotment sold out within 10 minutes of going live. The Switch 2 pre-order window was open to all paid and current Nintendo Switch Online subscribers in the UK, with no lotteries or additional requirements.
Following the April 2 Nintendo Direct focused on the Switch 2, pre-orders of the highly anticipated console started at different intervals across the globe. Although pre-orders in the US and Canada were pushed back to April 24 due to concerns around the Trump administration's global tariffs, retailers in countries like the UK and Australia started taking pre-orders a few days after the Nintendo Direct aired. Despite Nintendo's ongoing efforts to ramp up production, Switch 2 pre-orders have been a chaotic experience for many users globally. The Switch 2 and its accessories will be fully released on June 5.
One of 2024's Best Games Teased for the Switch 2
One of the highest-rated new video game releases of 2024 could be making its way to the Nintendo Switch 2.
Although the My Nintendo Store has been touted as a straightforward way for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers to purchase a Switch 2 ahead of June 5, some of the storefront's console allotment quickly sold out. As reported by Nintendo Life, Switch 2 pre-orders of the base console and the Mario Kart World bundle via the My Nintendo Store in the UK sold out within 10 minutes of the window opening.
My Nintendo Store Pre-Orders Of The Switch 2 Quickly Sold Out
- Switch 2 pre-orders via the UK My Nintendo Store sold out within 10 minutes.
- The pre-order window was exclusive to all UK-based Nintendo Switch Online subscribers.
- No email invitations were necessary to participate in the pre-order.
- Both the base Switch 2 console and the Mario Kart World bundle were available.
The offer was publicly open to all paid and current Nintendo Switch Online subscribers in the UK, with no additional requirements and no invitations needed. However, the Nintendo Switch Online requirement was implemented to give customers a shot at getting a Switch 2 pre-ordered while simultaneously deterring scalpers.
By comparison, qualified Nintendo Switch Online subscribers in the US will receive emails starting May 8 to pre-order Switch 2 consoles and accessories via the My Nintendo Store. Users who get an email from the My Nintendo Store will have 72 hours to complete their purchase. Once all email waves have been sent out, pre-orders via the My Nintendo Store will open to the public. Retailers like Walmart have instead opted to promote their launch day stock online and in person, rather than take additional Switch 2 pre-orders.
With new features like GameChat and games like Mario Kart World, the Switch 2 is expected to sell out quickly upon release. It is currently unknown when the next allotments of Switch 2 pre-orders in the UK will be available via the My Nintendo Store or other retailers, so users must keep track or wait until June 5.
