Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive Fast Fusion will have a day-one patch that will add a Quality mode to the game, enabling 4K gameplay. At least one more graphics mode may also be coming to Fast Fusion post-release, among other novelties.
Announced during the early April 2025 Nintendo Direct, Fast Fusion is the latest installment in the Fast series of futuristic arcade racers in the vein of F-Zero and Wipeout. Like the first three entries in Shin'en Multimedia's franchise, the upcoming title will be exclusive to a Nintendo console, with the upcoming Switch 2 being the target platform this time around.
Nintendo Switch 2 Adds Critically-Acclaimed New Release to Its Launch Lineup of 24 Games
With the Nintendo Switch 2 release date right around the corner, yet another game is confirmed for the new console's launch lineup.
The German developer has now confirmed that Fast Fusion will have a day-one patch waiting for it once it releases alongside the Switch 2 on June 5. The update will add a Quality graphics preset, targeting 4K resolution at 60 frames per second. The stated maximum resolution target applies to docked mode, as the console itself features a 1080p display.
Fast Fusion Won't Have a 120fps Mode at Launch
While the presence of a 4K/60fps Quality mode implies its Performance counterpart will be of the 1440p/120fps variety, that won't be the case. Shin'en Multimedia previously said it's considering a 120fps mode, but confirmed it won't be available at launch. The Fast Fusion developer has yet to specify the frame rate target for the Performance mode included in the day-one patch. With 120fps ruled out and 60fps already targeted by the Quality preset, the most plausible alternative for the day-one Performance mode is an unlocked frame rate paired with a 1440p output. A middle-ground option such as 90fps appears unlikely, as 90Hz refresh rates are not standard on most TVs, making such a frame rate lock more prone to issues like screen tearing due to mismatched output and display refresh cycles.
Fast Fusion will launch with 12 tracks and receive at least one free content update at some point afterward. Shin'en Multimedia has yet to elaborate on what exactly it has in store for the game's post-release content. Should the studio end up implementing a 120fps mode, it is plausible the preset would run at 1080p resolution, potentially even in docked mode. Like most Switch 2 titles, Fast Fusion is expected to utilize some degree of upscaling across most—if not all—of its graphics modes.
Apart from fast-paced gameplay and a variety of content, the upcoming sci-fi racer will also be looking to turn some heads with its price tag. At $14.99, Fast Fusion will be among the most affordable Switch 2 launch titles.
