Summary
- Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake is coming to multiple platforms on October 30.
- The remake will also be getting a native release for the Nintendo Switch 2.
Square Enix has confirmed that Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake is coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 on October 30 alongside the PC, PS5, original Switch, and Xbox Series X versions of the game. The Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake was a hit for Square Enix, and so it's no surprise that the company has decided to give a remake treatment to the first two games as well. However, those that have yet to dive in to the series may actually want to play Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake before they check out Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake later this year.
One of the reasons why Square Enix released Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake first is because, chronologically, it's the earliest game in the series. The original Dragon Quest trilogy centers around the hero Erdrick, with players able to experience his story with Square Enix's eye-popping HD-2D art style. And now we know those on Nintendo Switch 2 will be getting a native version of Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake.
Switch 2 Stock is Starting to Arrive at Retailers
The Nintendo Switch 2 is now days from release, and some retailers are already getting their shipments of the console for the big launch.
Square Enix confirmed the Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake's Nintendo Switch 2 port as part of the company's Dragon Quest Day celebrations. Alongside confirming that Dragon Quest 2 HD-2D Remake is coming to the Nintendo Switch 2, the company also confirmed the game's October 30 release date. Fans of the franchise can mark their calendars accordingly, even if they don't plan on having a Nintendo Switch 2 at that time. After all, Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake will also be coming to PC, PS5, original Switch, and Xbox Series X.
When is the Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake Release Date?
- Release Date: October 30
- Platforms: PC, PS5, Switch, Switch 2, Xbox Series X
It hasn't been confirmed yet if fans can expect a native Switch 2 release for Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake, but such a release might be redundant. While the game would get some performance boosts from the new console, it will already be playable on the device. That's because the Nintendo Switch 2 is backward compatible with the OG Switch, so Switch 2 gamers don't have to worry about missing out on replaying the Erdrick Trilogy in its entirety.
Square Enix has shown a great deal of support for the Nintendo Switch 2 early on. It has already confirmed that Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade is coming to the Switch 2 and has hinted that other games in that trilogy will be making their way to the new console as well. Square Enix will also be releasing Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remaster as a launch title for the Switch 2 when the new console releases on June 5. Clearly, Square Enix fans are going to have plenty to play on the Switch 2 this year.
