Summary
- The Nintendo Switch 2 has been delayed in Central America and the Caribbean.
- The delay was influenced by the region's small market size and the anticipated price of the console, said to be around $610 in the region.
- Pre-orders for the Switch 2 sold out quickly in the US, with reports of bot orders leading to an investigation.
The launch of the Nintendo Switch has been delayed in multiple countries across Central America and the Caribbean. Nintendo’s new console has been in high demand around the world since pre-orders first started earlier this month, and not everyone will be able to reserve a Nintendo Switch 2 ahead of its launch on June 5. America and Canada even had their pre-orders briefly delayed as a result of recent tariff changes.
While the Switch 2 launch date has remained unchanged in most parts of the world, some territories will have to wait a while longer than others for the newest piece of Nintendo hardware to arrive. Near the beginning of April, Nintendo officially postponed the release of the Switch 2 in China to gauge the demand for the console in that particular country, in a move that mirrored the launch of the original Switch over eight years ago.
Nintendo Switch 2 is Very Nearly the Perfect Zelda Machine
When the Nintendo Switch 2 launches, it will almost be the perfect gaming system for fans of the Legend of Zelda franchise.
A new report from Costa Rican outlet Teletica (via Nintendo Wire) states that Nintendo is now delaying the launch of the Switch 2 across Central America and the Caribbean. The primary reason for this is supposedly the lack of a digital storefront in the region like the Nintendo eShop, which has led Nintendo to deem the market “too small” to justify an official Switch 2 launch at the moment. Nintendo hasn’t started allocating any Switch 2 stock for Central America, and sales aren’t expected to begin until at least 2026.
Switch 2 Delayed in Central America and the Caribbean
Nintendo also reports that the Switch 2 is expected to cost around $610 in Central America and the Caribbean, which was likely another factor in delaying the console’s launch in that part of the world. In addition to Switch 2 pre-orders not being conducted in the region, Nintendo isn’t yet selling Switch 2 peripherals like the Pro Controller, so anyone wanting to buy this hardware will have to import it from another territory once the Switch 2 launches on June 5.
Things also haven’t been easy for people looking to buy the Nintendo Switch 2 in other parts of the world, like the United States, where pre-orders ran out almost as soon as they were made available late last week. Retailers like GameStop are reportedly investigating bot and duplicate orders with the goal of reselling them to actual customers who missed out during the first round of pre-orders. Everyone else will need to keep their eyes peeled for when the next batch of Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders reach online stores or wait until the console’s official release on June 5.
