Cyberpunk 2077 has seen a major turnaround since its initial launch back in 2020. First arriving amidst a massive wave of hype from its long development cycle, Cyberpunk 2077 became infamous upon its release for its myriad technical issues, soiling what looked to be a special game. In the time since, however, developer CD Projekt Red has turned the game around in a major way, while also supporting the franchise through the release of 2022's Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime and 2023’s Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty expansion.
While fans wait for the inevitable sequel - currently codenamed Project Orion - CD Projekt Red is continuing to push the game even further, as the developer confirmed that Cyberpunk 2077 will be a launch title for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 system. This is a major move considering that the game never released on the previous Nintendo Switch, and it signals a bright future for third-party titles on Nintendo’s new system. Considering everything this port offers, Cyberpunk 2077’s Switch 2 release could end up being a must-own for both newcomers and longtime Cyberpunk players alike.
The Cyberpunk 2077 Sequel May Want to Avoid the Obvious Multiplayer Route
There's a very good chance that Cyberpunk 2077's sequel will feature multiplayer, but it might be better off avoiding the obvious route.

Cyberpunk's Portability On Switch 2 Is A Driving Factor
Perhaps one of the biggest reasons Cyberpunk 2077 will be worth playing on the Nintendo Switch 2 naturally comes in the portability factor. It’s always been impressive that the Nintendo Switch can play console-quality games on a TV and in a portable form, but the Switch 2 suddenly feels like a whole new beast in that regard. Having a game as massive and powerful as Cyberpunk 2077 be playable on the Switch 2 is proof positive that Nintendo’s system will be able to handle blockbuster third-party games that skipped the previous system.
This isn’t the only portable device that can play Cyberpunk 2077, as the game was previously playable on Valve’s Steam Deck. Even so, early gameplay videos have shown that the Switch 2 version of the game will be able to look and perform well enough to stand alongside its fellow portable counterpart. It certainly doesn’t hurt that CD Projekt Red has confirmed that this Switch 2 release will use Nvidia’s Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) technology for upscaling, which bodes well for future third-party games on Nintendo’s platform.
Cyberpunk 2077's Cross-Progression Gives Incentive To Buy Again
CD Projekt Red has also confirmed that Cyberpunk 2077’s Switch 2 release will fully support cross-progression across all platforms. This means that gamers will be able to transfer all of their save data from other platforms over to Nintendo’s version of the game. For gamers who have previously put plenty of time into Cyberpunk, this is great news and even offers some amount of incentive to double-dip on the game at launch.
Nintendo fans who purchase Cyberpunk 2077 will also not have to worry about the Switch 2 version skimping on content, as the Switch 2 port will be of the game's Ultimate Edition re-release. This means that the game will not only include the base game, but it will also include the aforementioned Phantom Liberty expansion. This means that Nintendo fans will get to experience the game in its entirety, complete with all the overhauls and improvements that the game has seen since its initial release in 2020.

Cyberpunk 2077's Switch 2 Release Avoids One Of The System's Controversies
Cyberpunk 2077’s Switch 2 release will also avoid one of the biggest controversies surrounding the system as of late by including the entire game on the cartridge. Recently, there’s been a lot of talk about Switch 2 games featuring “Game-Key Cards” that don’t include the entire game and require an additional download. Nintendo fans who choose to purchase Cyberpunk 2077 physically will not have to worry about such a thing, as the entire game will fit on a 64 GB game card.
After making some great forward progress with third-party developers on the Nintendo Switch, the publisher looks to be taking things to an even greater level on the Nintendo Switch 2. Cyberpunk 2077’s release as a launch title - and the added bells and whistles that come with it - point to the Switch 2 becoming an excellent home for blockbuster third-party titles. Cyberpunk 2077 could lead the charge, and perhaps even become the new definitive version of the game in the process.
