Later this week, Nintendo will broadcast a new edition of the Indie World Showcase for Nintendo Switch. The announcement was made on Nintendo's official social media accounts early Monday morning and detailed the time and duration of the show.True to the title, the Indie World Showcase is a Direct-style series of broadcasts that focuses on indie games coming to the Switch. After the Switch launched in March 2017, Nintendo referred to indie game releases coming to its platforms as "Nindies" in most press materials and broadcasts. Starting in 2019, Nintendo changed the indie game broadcasts to the current Indie World Showcase. The previous Indie World Showcase was held on May 11 and featured titles such as Totally Accurate Battle Simulator and Cult of the Lamb. The average length of an Indie World Showcase varies from 20 to 30 minutes, depending on how many games are shown during the broadcast. The upcoming Indie World Showcase will air on Wednesday, November 9, at 9:00 AM PT and will run for approximately 25 minutes. The air date will mark six months to the day since the previous Indie World Showcase. The pre-recorded broadcast will focus on upcoming indie games that have either been confirmed for Switch or will be revealed for the first time on the platform. In the past, games previously released on other platforms made surprise appearances as the last game shown in the broadcast. One of the most notable was the surprise launch of Among Us on the Switch immediately following the December 2020 Indie World Showcase.
Though it is not clear what release windows this Indie World Showcase will focus on specifically, trailers from games that will release both at the end of 2022 and in early 2023 are possible. Back in the September 2022 Nintendo Direct, games such as Bayonetta 3 and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom were shown for both the 2022 and 2023 release windows. However, they are just some examples, albeit first-party and AAA examples, of the windows Nintendo and indie studios may want to focus on in the near term for the Switch. The Switch itself will turn six years old in March 2023.
However, fans have already begun asking for any information concerning Hollow Knight: Silksong on the Switch. The long-awaited sequel has been missing from Nintendo broadcasts since it was revealed by Team Cherry in 2019. However, Hollow Knight: Silksong has also been confirmed for PlayStation, PC, and Xbox, including a Day One release on Xbox Game Pass by June 2023 barring any delays. Though a lack of news may sting for Switch players, it remains to be seen if the game will appear this week or not.
