Ninja Gaiden 4 Complete Chapter List

NG4-Yakumo-Header

There are 19 chapters in Ninja Gaiden 4, and in nearly all of them, you'll play as series newcomer Yakumo, a ninja of the shadowy Raven Clan. There are two chapters where you play as Ninja Gaiden's primary protagonist, Ryu Hayabusa, but this occurs late in the game and serves mainly as a break in the main story.

Along with the main story that you'll be pursuing in each chapter, you can also take on a wide range of side-missions. These can be accepted at DarkNest Terminals, which replace both the typical save points and merchants from the previous games. All of these side-missions are optional, but you'll miss the chance to collect important resources, such as Black Scales and Phantasmal Herbs, which are the items that allow you to increase Yakumo's max health in Ninja Gaiden 4.

All Missions in Ninja Gaiden 4

To access side missions in NG4, simply check every DarkNest Terminal and Muramasa Shop – especially those you encounter at the start of each chapter. When you accept a mission, it will tell you the overall area the target is in, but not the exact chapter. For example, the first missions you accept reveal that the targets can be found in Sky City Tokyo, which is the overall region for the first few chapters.

Some missions will be resolved within the same chapter in which they first become available, and some will take a few chapters to be resolved. There is another type of mission that can be accepted that is not tied to a specific area. These will list "All Areas" as the target region, and will usually consist of combat or collectibles challenges.

How Long to Beat Ninja Gaiden 4

NG4-Ryu-Achilles-Header

The time it takes to complete Ninja Gaiden 4 will vary wildly depending on the player. Fans who feel confident with the Ninja Gaiden combat style will likely make their way through the main story much faster than those jumping in for the first time. With that in mind, we'll explain how long it took us to beat NG4, and how long you can expect it to take depending on a few different factors.

  • 100% Mission and Chapter Completion: It took us about 35 hours to complete every side mission, every Purgatory mission on the hardest setting, and every chapter. We played on the Hard setting, as we are extremely comfortable with the Ninja Gaiden combat system. We scoured every inch of every map, often multiple times, so fellow experienced players may take less time.
  • New Players: Depending on how deep you want to explore and complete side missions, you can expect to spend 10–20 hours on the main story, and 10–15 hours on the side missions. This is based on a Normal difficulty setting.
  • Main Story Only: Seasoned fans have reported that they have gotten through the main story in as little as 10 hours, sometimes even less, but this is a straight shot with no side missions at all. Most players can expect 10–15 hours at the bare minimum.
