Summary

  • In Nightingale, Realm Spirits can restore depleted resources like regrowing trees and reviving animals, aiding players in resource gathering.
  • Players must progress in the main questline to understand interactions with Realm Spirits; attacking them is futile until the Dispel Enchantment is obtained.
  • Despite complex lore and features, journal entries for creatures and NPCs are missing, leaving players curious and in need of more information.

Nightingale is a surprisingly complex game, and while this can be great for survival-crafting game enthusiasts, it can also be plenty confusing at times, even for veterans of the genre. Therefore, the in-game journal entries can be a blessing for players looking to understand Nightingale’s mysterious lore and complex features.

However, there currently aren’t any journal entries for the various creatures, monsters, and other NPCs in Nightingale, so it’s a common occurrence for players to confuse friends with foes, and vice versa. Such is the case with the Realm Spirits in Nightingale. While these creatures look intimidating, they can be quite helpful once players understand their purpose in the game.

What Do Nightingale’s Realm Spirits Do?

These mystical ghost-like creatures will roam around Nightingale's Fae Realms and restore depleted resources, which includes things like regrowing trees and plants, as well as reviving defeated animals. This is incredibly helpful because it allows players the opportunity to gather more resources wherever these Realm Spirits are; otherwise, players would need to hop to a new Realm to do this.

As for the kinds of interactions players can have with Realm Spirits, these will be revealed as players progress in Nightingale’s main questline. Until then, these mysterious beings will leave players alone and carry on replenishing the local Realm’s wildlife.

While the players’ first reaction might be to try and attack a Realm Spirit, initially, this won’t do anything. The Dispel Enchantment in Nightingale that players will eventually get access to is the only way to damage these Realm Spirits. It’s said that these Realm Spirits are as tough as they look, so players should be sure to gear up with powerful armor and weapons in Nightingale before attempting to fight them.

Where to Find Realm Spirits in Nightingale

While the Dispel Enchantment can only be earned after reaching a certain point in Nightingale’s story, players can encounter Realm Spirits very early on in the game, as early as immediately after completing the tutorial. The Carnute, or ‘demon deer’ Realm Spirit can be found wandering in Forest Biomes in Nightingale. There seemingly aren’t any Realm Spirits in the Desert and Swamp Biomes for now, but these biomes will likely get their own version of a Realm Spirit in future updates for Nightingale.

This can be a bit frustrating for players who have built their Abeyance Realm in a Desert or Swamp, given that certain resources won’t replenish in these biomes. Even in Forest Biomes, there are certain areas that Realm Spirits won’t be able to reach like steep cliffs and anywhere that requires climbing. However, players who run out of resources in their Abeyance Realm can buy most of the low-tier resources from their Realm’s Essence Trader in Nightingale. Additionally, players will eventually gain access to an Enchantment that can mimic a Realm Spirits’ power to replenish certain resources.

Nightingale’s Mysterious Lore Is Too Complex For Its Own Good

Overall, the journal entries in Nightingale can generally help players get over any confusion about certain story elements and gameplay features in the game. At the moment though, there aren’t any journal entries for the specific animals, monsters, and NPC characters that players can encounter in Nightingale.

Consequently, creatures like the Realm Spirits, and even Puck—the player’s guide in Nightingale—can leave players with an itching curiosity. Given how early it is in Nightingale's early access release, it’s understandable that certain features are incomplete. Regarding NPC journal entries, though, characters like these are arguably a perfect example of why this needs to be a feature in a future update for Nightingale.
