Summary
- Next God of War game may feature Egyptian mythology.
- The next God of War has not been officially announced at the time of this writing.
According to the latest rumors, the next God of War game may finally feature an Egyptian mythology setting. The original God of War games saw Kratos take on the Greek pantheon, while the 2018 God of War game and 2022's God of War Ragnarok were all about Norse mythology. With Ragnarok bringing an end to the Norse mythology setting, many fans have been wondering what's next for the God of War franchise.
No new God of War game has been announced at the time of this writing, but Ragnarok's story ended in a way that leaves the door wide open for sequels. And considering the massive sales success enjoyed by the God of War franchise, a new game is a matter of "when" and not "if." Sony has not actually announced a new God of War, but if rumors are to be believed, it seems as though the next game will be themed after Egyptian mythology.
Concord May Have Caused a New God of War Game to Be Canceled
It seems Concord's failure may have led to the cancelation of a new God of War game that was in development.
According to DanielRPK, Sony is actively casting Middle Eastern actors "for an unknown AAA game" that is "likely" the next God of War, which will focus on Egyptian mythology. God of War fans have wanted to see Kratos tackle Egyptian gods in the games for years now, and it seems they may finally be getting their wish. Of course, that's assuming Kratos is the protagonist of the next God of War. Spoilers for God of War Ragnarok follow.
God of War Could Be Going to Egypt
God of War Ragnarok SPOILERS
The God of War Ragnarok ending saw Atreus leave Kratos to search for the Giants. It's possible that Atreus' journey will see him reach Egypt and force him to go head-to-head with the gods of Egyptian mythology without his father's help. A God of War game without Kratos as the main character would be a huge gamble, especially since Atreus has had a mixed reaction, but it would be interesting.
Previous rumors about the next God of War game suggest that it may be smaller in scale than the 2018 game and Ragnarok. Otherwise, there hasn't been much leaked about the project. And like with all leaks, fans should take any claims about the new God of War with a massive grain of salt. It's best to wait for an official announcement from Sony about God of War's future before getting too excited about what may be in store.
Presumably, this new God of War project is completely separate from the one that was recently canceled. While unconfirmed, it's been suggested that Bluepoint Games was working on a God of War live-service title, only for Sony to ultimately scrap the project.
