If you aren't quite sure how to play, here is a quick breakdown of the rules of the New York Times Games Strands.

  • Inside the puzzle are between six and eight hidden words; one will be the category for the whole puzzle and the others will be words that fit inside that category.
  • Categories in this minimalist puzzle game will turn yellow when you guess them, and the word or phrase will touch two opposite walls of the puzzle block.
  • Categories can be single words like "Fruit" or more like "Cardinal Sins."
  • You can select words that don't fit the category that are four-or-more letters in order to earn hints. Each three words you find, you will get access to a new hint.
