New World has been suffering from a gold duplication glitch for a while, and Amazon has taken increasingly strict measures to try and counter it. Recently, the developers finally reinstated the Trading Post again, allowing New World players to transfer gold once more.

The gold duplication glitch was first noticed after New World began allowing characters to transfer servers. The bug allowed for players to effectively duplicate gold by sending it to a character unaffected by the glitch, logging out, and logging back in to find the sent gold still present in the glitched character's inventory. Server transfers were quickly suspended while developers worked to counter the glitch, but it proved harder to remove than some may have expected.

According to a recent post on the New World forums, the gold dupe glitch has been dealt with--at least, the version of the gold dupe glitch that applied to Trading Posts has been dealt with. New World players have found themselves confronted by multiple different versions of the glitch since October, so this may not be the end of the bug. Regardless, players may be happy to hear that New World's Trading Posts are once again open for business.

This isn't the only glitch that has seriously impacted New World, but it may be one of the furthest-reaching. The gold dupe glitch has led directly to both server transfers and the Trading Post being temporarily shut down, which appears to have left many players frustrated. Although New World has encountered a lot of issues since its launch, the gold dupe glitch has impacted players' ability to upgrade settlements and trade with each other on top of getting the Trading Post closed for maintenance.

As of writing, it appears that all related maintenance has ended in each of the game's regions, meaning that players can once again use their genuine gold properly. Reportedly, players who exploited the gold dupe glitch have been banned, though it's unclear whether this extends to players who were intentionally given duplicated gold by other players who'd already used the glitch and wanted to take enemies or bystanders down with them. Whatever the case, it's unlikely that the gold dupe glitch will be the last bug that seriously impacts New World players. Some players have asked pointed questions of the New World developers, particularly regarding server lag and how glitches are changing the way AOE skills work.

New World is available now on PC.
