Open-world RPGs often mean that players have to dedicate a certain amount of time to gather resources, a process is also known as "farming." In Amazon's new MMORPG New World, players will need to harvest a massive amount of Hemp and its related by-product, Fiber. Both are required for many of the recipes that players will want to make in the game, so they'll want to harvest it whenever they can. It's easy to find Hemp plants in New World as long as the player knows where to look.

The game seems to have attracted and exposed some of the best and worst things about MMOs, from oblivious developers to greedy producers and shameless exploiters.
Development continues, as the game definitely has its fans, and it's safe to say New World still has a lot going for it despite some glaring flaws. Some of the rules and mechanics have been tweaked, so our mini-guide for collecting precious Fibers also needs some updates.
Harvesting Hemp
Fibers In New World
Fiber comes from the hemp plant in New World. Players will mostly come across Hemp often in New World while out fighting in PvP battles and collecting other materials. The plant is tall and has purple leaves or flowers at the top of its long stems.
There are several plants in Aeternum that yield different kinds of cloth fibers. Some can be gathered by hand while others require a specific harvesting tool. The specific Fiber that's used for a variety of crafting and refining is only found in Hemp.
- Hemp. Easily found throughout Aeternum in various open plains and wooded forests. A sickle is required to harvest Hemp plants.
- Silkweed. Often found within close proximity to Hemp plants, Silkweed is only found in higher-level areas and players need a Harvesting level of 75.
- Wirefiber. In rocky, hard-to-reach areas and quite rare, players need a Harvesting skill of 175.
- Bullrushes. Found by freshwater, these can be harvested by hand and are used in a variety of recipes.
- Briars. Found in plans and lowlands, Briars are not only used in basic furniture construction along with Fiber but also in Arcana for brewing low-level potions.
Acquiring Hemp And Fiber
In order to get Hemp and Fiber, players just need to find one of these plants, walk up to it, and hit the E button to harvest it. Hemp and related plants like Silkweed usually grow in clumps, allowing players to harvest them in large groups at one time.
This will help New World players to level their harvesting skills while collecting this much-needed plant at the same time. Once players reach a harvesting level of 100, they will be able to see the locations of Hemp on the map by pressing the M key.
Sickles
Some resources in New World are harvested using bare hands, but Hemp isn't one of them. Players need to equip a sickle in order to harvest Hemp plants in New World, and fortunately, it's one of the first and easiest tools most people make. The more advanced a tool is, the fast and more productive the harvest.
- Flint Harvesting Sickle. Flint and greenwood, resources gathered by hand, are all that's required to craft this simple tool. Make it at a Tier 1 Campsite or a Tier 1 Workshop.
- Iron Harvesting Sickle. Iron, timber, and coarse leather are needed to make one. A Tier II item.
- Steel Harvesting Sickle. Steel, timber, and coarse leather are needed to make one. A Tier III item.
- Starmetal Harvesting Sickle. Starmetal, timber, and coarse leather are needed to make one. A Tier IV item.
- Orichalcum Harvesting Sickle. Orichalcum, timber, and coarse leather are needed to make one. A Tier III item.
Harvesting Perks
There are some Perks that sickle already has when purchased or crafted. Players can add these Perks to crafted tools using Azoth or specific crafting mods. Some other buffs and ability score increases that help with Harvesting are also applicable to jewelry or gear.
- Harvesting Luck. Applied to a sickle, gain 2.0% chance at finding rare items.
- Harvesting Yield. 10.0% more resources while harvesting.
- Horticulture Discipline. Gain 3.0% more Harvesting experience.
- Reinforced Harvesting Luck. While Harvesting gain 2.0% chance at finding rare items.
- Adored Harvesting Luck While Harvesting gain 5.0% chance at finding rare items.
Best Locations For Hemp
The best places to look for hemp in New World are located in the grasslands located to the southern part of the middle of the map, south of Windsward fort area and north of Everfall. Although players can find hemp all over Aeternum, this is the location where the hemp grows in the largest patches and close together. Hemp plants are found in most parts of the map of Aeternum, but they can be found mostly in grassy fields and forest regions.
Players should be able to harvest large quantities of Hemp fibers even at the early stages of the game. They don't weigh much, unlike other resources like ore or wood, and MMORPG player knows that bag space is always an issue. Just make sure to keep an eye out for anyone looking to pick a fight while harvesting. While harvesting is necessary to make just about everything in the game, combat is still the main focus of New World.
What To Make With Hemp Fiber
While there are microtransactions for cosmetics in New World, most items that are useful in the game will have to be made by hand. Players will need to make armor for themselves and furnish items for their homes. Linen, which is made with Fiber, is not only a widely used resource in its own right but is also needed when crafting Sateen and other high-level fibers at a Loom. Only Fur Armor doesn't require Fiber or Linen.
Fiber is required for most of these items as fiber is used to make cloth of all kinds in New World. The first fishing pole players can build requires Fibers, harvested from Hemp plants in New World, and this is another important harvesting tool. Players will want to collect as much hemp fibers as possible when they are out collecting other materials in the world so they can make the following items. This is a shortlist of what players can make using Fiber, just to give an idea of how important this resource is to Crafting in general.
- Linen. The only ingredient required to make linen is Fiber. A Tier 2 Loom is required and players can make it at the lowest skill level. Linen is used to making a variety of Tier I and II clothing. It is also required to make Sateen out of Silk Fiber and is used as a separate ingredient for virtually every article of clothing made at the Outfitting Station.
- Wooden Fishing Pole. Fibers are required to construct the fishing line. A Tier I Campsite or a Tier 2 Workshop is needed.
- Wicker Basket. Handy decor for the player's home. This falls under the Furnishing category and can be made at a Workshop along with some Reeds, which are gathered by hand.
- Rusty Iron Lantern. Another furnishing item, it can hang anywhere inside or outside the player's house. Oil and iron are also required, which are gathered using a pickaxe.
- Warm Iron Chandelier. A fancy fixture for a humble home. This can only be placed inside. Also needs Oil and Iron.
- Round Sunny Rug. Made with Linen and Fiber. Looks great on the porch or in front of the fireplace.
- Cerulean Drapes. When your home needs that rich, heavy look, use some blue pigment and a few iron ingots to make these handsome curtains.
