Amazon Games announced that New World is free-to-play on Steam until December 19. In addition, all editions of New World are also 50% off until January 5, 2023.
Amazon Games released its MMORPG New World in September 2021. Set on the fictional island of Aeternum in the Atlantic Ocean, players can join one of three factions to gather resources and battle for control of the uncharted land. While the game was highly anticipated before release, a poorly executed launch and copious bugs and balance issues saw New World’s popularity decline in late 2021. The game also struggled to compete with the Korean MMO Lost Ark, which Amazon published internationally in February 2022.
Still, New World is far from a dead game, and Amazon is offering a free weekend to encourage players to pick it up on Steam. Starting on December 15, gamers can pick New World up for free through December 19. Note that players who download the game during the free weekend will still need to purchase it if they want to keep playing after the period ends. Fortunately, New World’s Standard, Deluxe, and Azoth Editions are all 50% off on Steam and Amazon from December 15 until January 5, 2023.
New World’s Standard and Deluxe Editions normally retail for $39.99 and $49.99 on Steam. However, the Standard Edition is $19.99 during the current sale, with New World’s Deluxe Edition going for $24.99. The latter includes New World’s Digital Art Book, the Woodsman Apparel Skin, Woodsman Hatchet Skin, and Rock/Paper/Scissors Emote Set. In addition, customers who purchase the Deluxe Edition will also receive the Mastiff House Pet when they gain access to player housing at Level 15.
Meanwhile, New World’s Azoth Edition is a new package released today. Named after the supernatural mineral native to New World’s island of Aeternum, it includes the Deluxe Edition items as well as a long list of additional items. The additional content consists of the Scorching Sand Apparel Skin, Wicked Ways Weapon Set, Blunderbuss of Brimstone Weapon Skin, Sarcophagus Housing Item, Aegyptus and Card Suit Crest Packs, Desert Vanguard Title, and Chest Pound Emote. Purchasers also get five Gold, Silver, and Smoldering Scarlet clothing and armor Dyes. The Azoth Edition will normally retail for $89.99 on Steam, but Amazon reduced it to $44.99 until January 5.
Despite its troubled launch , the game still has an active fanbase, with tens of thousands of players logging in daily. Additionally, while New World still has Mixed reviews on Steam overall, recent reviews have been much more positive, indicating that developers may have worked out some of the kinks it suffered from at launch.
