Amazon Games released a brand-new update for New World: Aeternum that nerfs overall XP gains in the popular Cursed Mists PvP zone. The New World: Aeternum update also applies bug fixes, introduces new features for the PC version, and partly addresses crashing issues from prior updates.

Amazon Games' popular MMORPG New World launched in September 2021 as a PC exclusive, and the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions followed up on October 15, 2024, with New World: Aeternum being the game's new title. The console versions launched just in time for the start of New World: Aeternum's Nightfall Hallow event. During Nightfall Hallow, players were able to complete limited-time activities and quests to earn exclusive Halloween-themed rewards. Players also had the opportunity to claim rewards like armor pieces, costumes, and Nightveil Tokens by defeating Baalphazu, the level 66 Nightfall Hollow world boss. Before the release of the latest update, Nightveil Tokens earned from participating in Nightveil Hallow could be used in the event shop to obtain skins, emotes, and other items for free.

10 Beginner Tips For New World

New World is an entertaining release but it can be overwhelming to beginners.

The version 1.1.2 update for New World: Aeternum went live this week to nerf XP gains in the Cursed Mists, with patch notes citing that players received more XP than the developers had intended. Rewards appear to be unaffected by the nerf, as players can still retain 50% of their rewards if they die or teleport out of the Cursed Mists. Depending on how players meet their end in the Cursed Mists, they have the opportunity to head back into the zone to grab the loot they dropped. It's worth noting that the update's release marked the end of Nightfall Hollow, so players will need to wait for another New World: Aeternum update regarding the next major in-game event.

Along with the Cursed Mists XP nerf, update 1.1.2 brought some bug fixes that prevented progression in the Syndicate: Trail of the Scrivener quest, Faction ranks, and the "Repeat Offender" Season Journey task. A bug that caused players to phase into objects when accessing menus and vaulting has also been fixed. In addition, Amazon Games provided a fix for one of New World: Aeternum's crashing issues, confirming one of the crashing instances was caused by corrupted game installs.

In the PC version of New World: Aeternum, players now have access to AMD's FSR temporal anti-aliasing at the native resolution and FSR sharpness control. FSR rendering artifacts were fixed in the PC and console versions, and the overall quality of FSR's upscaling has been improved to bring a clearer image for players. Effects on emissive materials and weapons have been fixed to prevent them from being a hindrance to the player's sight as well.

New World: Aeternum Update 1.1.2 Patch Notes

World Experience

  • Fixed an issue that caused players to receive more PvP Experience than intended in the Cursed Mists zone.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented progress in the Syndicate: Trial of the Scrivener quest and Faction rank advancement.
  • Fixed an issue that caused several repeatable Expedition quests to not contribute to the "Repeat Offender" Season Journey task.
  • Fixed an issue that caused players to phase into certain objects when accessing menus while vaulting.

Rendering

  • PC DX12 Beta Client:
    • Added FSR native resolution TAA (Temporal Anti-Aliasing) only mode
    • Added FSR sharpness control
    • Improved the stability of our DX12 renderer
  • FSR - Console/PC DX12:
    • Improved visual quality of the FSR upscale
    • Fixed rendering artifacts that could occur during FSR upscaling
  • Fixed an issue in which emissive materials were not properly rendering, causing an unintended blue glow on several weapons.
  • Fixed an issue in which some weapon effects would appear overly blown-out, especially in heavy combat scenarios.
  • Fixed Depth-of-Field shimmering in certain lighting conditions (most notable during in-game cinematics).

Notable Fixes

  • Identified and fixed a rare crash that could occur if a player's client has a corrupted install which causes certain texture files to be invalid. In these cases we will instead render a basic white texture, allowing players to proceed into the game. Players who see this white texture should validate their installation files afterwards to try to correct any prior installation issues.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented players on PC from progressing if they had Old Wounds ready for turn in before the release of New World: Aeternum.
  • Fixed an issue that caused the 3v3 Arena end of match UI to not display properly.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented nameplates from appearing.
