Walking through the enormous map of New World: Aeternum is going to be a chore. Luckily, there are mounts in the game that players can use to help make traversal a lot faster. Unlocking them is pretty simple, but there are some things about mounts here that players may want to know about.

Getting a mount should be on everyone's priority list — they're pretty handy if you're trying to level up as quickly as possible in New World: Aeternum. Here's what you need to know about how to unlock and upgrade mounts.

New World: Aeternum Mount quest jochi Khan

You'll get your first mount once you complete the My Kingdom for a Horse quest, which will automatically get added to your Journal once you hit level 20. This is a short and simple quest that starts at Jochi Khan's stable some distance north of Oxboro Hamlet.

My Kingdom for a Horse will have you visiting a cave, communing with spirits, and interacting with a nearby horse. Just follow the objective markers on your screen, and you'll get your first horse in no time. Speak with Jochi Khan again to start a series of quests showing you how to earn Riding XP. Finish that, and you'll be able to buy different horses from him. You'll either have to farm a lot of gold in New World: Aeternum or use real money to buy new horses.

How to Get Wolf and Lion Mounts

You can also get a Wolf and Lion mount later on in the game by completing the following quests from their respective NPCs:

  • A Pack of Knaves (Valencia Iznov in the Great Cleave region, north of the lake near Eeriedune Shrine)
  • Lion's Lament (Zinnumun, at the crossroads west of The Bull's Eye in the Elysian Wilds)

Press Right on your D-Pad or X on your keyboard to use your mount. Additionally, for players from before the Aeternum update, you must own the Rise of the Angry Earth expansion in order to gain access to mounts.

There are two ways to improve your mount's speed: equipping Mount Charms and leveling your Riding Skill. You can track your progress by going to your Trade Skills tab and selecting the Riding Skill on the bottom right.

You can level your Riding Skill by completing Mount Quests. These are found all over the world, represented by a symbol resembling laurels and a finish line. Alternatively, you can craft Mount Vittles using Barley, Water, Milk, and Mount Vitamins. Feeding these to your mount will give you Riding XP, though this can only be done three times per day. You can make these from anywhere as long as you can set up a camp in New World: Aeternum.

As for Mount Charms, you can get some by completing certain Mount Quests, reaching Riding Skill milestones, and defeating world bosses like Siren's Brute in Reekwater. These give your mount different bonuses, such as more dash stamina or better speed when running on or off a road.
