On January 20, 2026, the official Sonic the Hedgehog YouTube channel released a trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog Presents: The Chaotix Casefiles, a new audio drama podcast focusing on the Chaotix Detective Agency that will release on January 27, 2026. 2026 marks the 35th anniversary of the Sonic the Hedgehog series, and Sega has been teasing that this year will be a full one for the blue blur.
The fastest thing alive is one of the most marketable images on the planet, with video games, TV shows, the world’s longest-running comic based on a video game, and movies. Most recently, Sega released Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds on all major consoles and PC. But while the speedster is the face of Sega, Sonic the Hedgehog's varied supporting cast members all have fans of their own.

Sonic the Hedgehog Presents: The Chaotix Casefiles Will Focus on an Underrated Trio
The Chaotix Casefiles will focus on the members of the Chaotix Detective Agency, who debuted back in Knuckles' Chaotix on the Sega 32X back in 1995: Vector the Crocodile, Espio the Chameleon, and Charmy Bee. The show will be distributed by Realm and available “wherever you listen to podcasts,” according to the YouTube trailer’s description. Not much has been released about the plot itself, but if the (admittedly very tongue-in-cheek) trailer is any indication, the detective trio will be teaming up with Sonic himself to investigate a theft at the city museum that will spiral into something much bigger.
The show is directed by Ian Jones-Quartey, who is also known for creating Cartoon Network’s O.K. K.O.! Let’s Be Heroes, which actually did a crossover episode with Sonic. Dan Jolley is the show’s lead writer, having worked on multiple titles for DC Comics and Transformers video games, as well as serving as a consultant on the story for Dying Light. Ian Flynn and Evan Stanley, two of the most prominent creative voices in current Sonic media, will also be on the project. Roger Craig Smith, the voice of Sonic the Hedgehog in the game series, reprises his role, as do the voices of the Chaotix: Keith Silverstein as Vector, Matthew Mercer as Espio, and Colleen O’Shaughnessy as Charmy. Sega has also said that other “fan-favorites” are set to appear, so it’s reasonable to assume that any other game characters that appear will also be reprised by their game voice actors.
Sonic the Hedgehog's supporting cast needs more spotlight outside the IDW comics, so to see a new project focused on the Chaotix is a pleasant surprise. 2023’s The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog was also a surprise mystery-themed Sonic project, and it was very well-received for being a more character-based Sonic game. However, The Chaotix Casefiles won’t have to be restricted to a single character’s point of view. Since it’s a drama instead of a video game, there are so many more possibilities for how the story could go than in Murder.
The Chaotix Casefiles probably won’t be mind-blowing epics of storytelling, especially with how strict Sega has been with Sonic’s writers since the Archie Sonic comics ended. But the Chaotix don’t need deep character analyses or traumatic backstories – they’re just a solid team of guys who need to pay their rent. And with the competent team behind the series, it’s fair to assume that the trio will be done their due justice.
